Jar Lantern I loved this wood piece which had been sitting on a shelf high above one of the check-out stations at Stan Browns Arts & Crafts located right here in Portland. I fussed and teased at Stan to sell me this wood piece -- the last of its kind in his warehouse -- for what seemed like *forever* and eventually he gave in to my whining! :::beam::: I adore Stan. :-) The lantern was caked in years of dust (the warehouse is dirty but the painting eye-candy is so heavenly there -- who cares about dirt & dust! lol) and required a good cleaning and sanding too before it could be primed and painted. Surprisingly, the light bulb still worked! The piece actually sat on my shelves for almost another year while I hunted and searched for the perfect pattern ... which I could never seem to find. Eventually, I decided I would have to adapt one so I did just that with Jacques Zuidema's book "Porcelanizing" and took bits and pieces of five different patterns. It's painted solely in Jansen Art Traditions Sapphire Blue and Titanium White to match my kitchen colours and now sits on my kitchen table to gently light the night. **happy sigh** I love it! |
