You will need:
|
SPC INC.: Relief Plaster |
DECOART: Venetian Gold |
|
HEINZ JORDAN: Heinz Jordan Flexi Palette Knife |
GETSONS CREATIONS: Set of 4 Coasters |
|
PLAID ENTERPRISES: Craft Stencil (leaves are nice!) |
|
To begin:
Sand and seal each of the coasters on both sides. Wipe with a Tack Cloth.
To each Coaster apply a thin coat of relief plaster. Apply as if you are buttering bread, allowing it to be a bit uneven. Allow it to dry (shouldn't take long).
Once the first coat is dry, position the stencil motif over the centre of the coaster. Apply a small amount of plaster over the motif, this is a thin application, it shouldn't be thicker than the stencil. Gently peel the stencil back towards you. Repeat on the remaining three coasters. Allow them to dry.
Once dry lightly sand the coasters to remove any rough spots.
Base coat each coaster with Venetian Gold (one or two coats should suffice). Allow them to dry.
Once the paint has dried, mix a glaze of Final Coat and Lamp Black (fairly thick glaze … more like thin paint.) with the shop towel wipe some of the Black Glaze over the Motif. (This should be rather heavy, nearly obliterating the Motif.) Let it sit for a minute or so, then gently wash back. Remove some of the glaze allowing only the high points of the texture to show through. Allow it to dry.
Mix another glaze of the same strength using Desert Turquoise. Apply this glaze to the coaster, paying particular attention to edges of the motif (you want the colour to catch around the motif) immediately wash it back leaving the colour only in the LOW areas of the texture. This creates the oxidized effect. Allow the coasters to dry.
Apply 5 or 6 coats of FINAL COAT to the coasters letting each coat dry about 5 minutes before applying the next.
