PAPIER PAINT SEMINAR TRANSCRIPT LOG OF 5-22-2004

ViaVon : *drumroll*

ViaVon : Welcome everyone to tonite's Seminar on Papier Paints with Stacey Merritt!!  Stacey is one of the leaders and cheerleaders for this new product with a website devoted to it and an e-group as well!  Please remember to be quiet during Stacey's presentation until the Q&A Session begins

And on that note, I'd like to **turn over the microphone** to STACEY !!!

The floor is yours, Stacey!

Stacey :

One Stroke Painting was created by native Floridian and mother of seven, Donna Dewberry. Donna has been involved with arts and crafts for more than 2 decades. She began decorative painting, she says, because she wanted to, not necessarily because she had talent. She started with what she calls "dot painting," which uses the end of the brush handle, but she eventually got up the courage to use the bristle end of the brush. After many evenings at her dining room table teaching herself to paint, Donna created One Stroke Painting, a technique for stress-free decorative painting.

One Stroke started out simply as a way to effortlessly devise amazingly easy and beautiful flowers with Folk Art Acrylics. As more and more decorative painters discovered One Stroke they became eager to branch out and paint more things; Animals, Landscapes, Seasonal items and more were added to the One Stroke product family.

Not so long ago Folk Art created a new paint so that it would be possible to paint on glass without fear of chipping. Folk Art created the Enamel Paints, which were still as thick and creamy as the original FolkArt Acrylics.

Now Folk Art has created a new generation of paints that can be used on paper projects. This new breakthrough product is the PAPIER PAINTS.

Papier Paints are archival safe so the many scrapbookers and greeting card crafters will be able to use the phenomenal One Stroke technique in their projects. Typically painting on paper meant that once the image was dry it had to be framed immediately to help prevent curling and wrinkling. Plus the paint could crack if the paper was bent or handled too much. This made it tricky when it came to painting on greeting cards and in scrapbooks.  Papier paints make it possible now to paint on paper and not have the wrinkling and curling that occurs with traditional paints.

Papier Paint is non-toxic and it is not water-based so it is less likely to warp your paper projects. It is also flexible, meaning it will not crack when dry or when papers bend.

Papier Paints are great because it makes it possible to delve into a whole new realm with One Stroke!

When using the Papier Paints with the One Stroke technique you must use the Flow Medium. Flow medium dilutes the paint without changing the chemical compound of the paint. Never add water to your Papier Paint because it would jeopardize the chemical structure of the paint.

Not only are Papier Paints for Paper but also can be used on WOOD! Just like paper, you can brush on or use Papier to add dimension to your projects.

Papier Paints are not only useful for One Stroke Painting. Papier Paints allow scrapbookers to embellish their pages with anything they can think of! The possibilities are endless!

You can embellish books, board games, gift boxes, journals, tags, serving trays, bookmarks, scrapbooks, picture frames, cigar boxes and more! Let your imagination run WILD! Add squiggles, words, lines, dots, checks, hearts, flowers and so much more straight from the bottle.

Papier Paints allow you to create many one of a kind creations and embellishments for your paper and wood projects!

The Papier Paints line has many special effects paints such as metallic, glitter and glass effects! The paints come in 38 colors including Donna’s traditional colors that she uses in her stroke work!

Donna has also created new brushes which are stiffer and make it easier to do stroke work. Other than the special effects paints the Papier Paint dries to a satin finish.

Papier Paints cure in 48 hours and are completely set.

Another brilliant thing about Papier Paints is the fact they were designed so that you have the ability to write with it straight from the bottle. Each bottle has a tip that makes it easy to write and make designs!

Papier Paints are a wonderful new product that makes it easy for novice to advanced painters and crafters to use!

The bottom line is Papier Paint is an innovative new product that will revolutionize the paper crafting industry!

You can visit my site at http://www.staceyscreations.com for free tutorials and projects using the papier paints! I have online classes available as well that show you how to create beautiful projects using the Papier Paints!

I am running a special on Papier Painting Kits on my site as well! To purchase the kits you may go directly to the page http://www.angelfire.com/la3/papierpainting/papier.html

I am now ready for questions! Feel free to ask me anything! I will do my best to help answer your questions!

ViaVon : *applause*
ViaVon : WOW thank you Stacey!
Stacey : Thanks!
DebbieS_Ga : If the paints are not water based what do you use to clean your brush?
ViaVon : That's a lot of information to absorb all at once! LOL
MaryEllen-TX : *Thanks STa
MaryEllen-TX : *
ViaVon : Please remember everyone to type in an * to put yourself into queue
ViaVon : MaryEllen -- you're up first then!
MaryEllen-TX : If you paint on wood to go outside...and you finish it with an outdoor finish...is it still safe to use the Papier Paints...the metallics, also?
Cathy-SC : *what are the paints made of.
ViaVon : Please wait to type your question until you've been called upon. :-)
Stacey : It should be safe When the paint has dried 48 hours, you can use a brush-on varnish over
Stacey : Papier Paint.
Stacey : Metallics would work the same
Stacey : Did that answer your question Mary?
MaryEllen-TX : Does that include all of the paints? What I'm trying to say is, is it safe to use the metallics and glitters for outdoor use also?
Stacey : I would think that it would be safe if you were to use an outdoor over the paint....I would try on something small and inexpensive first though
MaryEllen-TX : Yes, that answers my question. Thank you, Stacey!
ViaVon : Debbie -- your question is next then :-)
DebbieS_Ga : If the paint is not water based how do you clean your brush?
Stacey : Hi Cathy.....I am not sure of the exact compound but it does have a co poloymer base...the texture is like that of a thick glue
DebbieS_Ga : *did my question get in?
ViaVon : Yes, Debbie ... but I'm not sure Stacey is finished answering how to clean the brushes. Stacey ??
Stacey : Hi Debbie...You can use water to clean your brush...before you go to paint make sure to blot the water off of your brush
DebbieS_Ga : *thanks
ViaVon : Cathy, did Stacey answer your question as well there ?
MaryEllen-TX : *
Cathy-SC : *yes she did. Thank YOu
pop : Where can you buy Papier paint in Canada?
ViaVon : Good -- MaryEllen, your question is next
MaryEllen-TX : I've read where you can use the paint on glass as well, can you use the 'mirror' finish over it if you paint on glass?
Stacey : Mary...I was not aware that the paint can be used on glass.... Plaid states that it can be used on Porous surfaces and glass is non porous
MaryEllen-TX : Okay...I'm blonde...forgive me!
JanFL : *
pop : *where do you buy Papier paint in Canada?
MaryEllen-TX : It was in a magazine article!
Stacey : I will have to check that one out Mary...it is very interesting
Cathy-SC : *
pop : *
ViaVon : PLEASE -- if you wish to ask a question, type an asterisk * only and wait to enter your question until you are called upon. :-)
ViaVon : Pop's question is for information on Canadian Suppliers
Stacey : Pop....I am not sure but I am selling Papier Products on my site and will be more than happy to ship them to Canada for you
ViaVon : POP -- we'll have to get back to you on that. Please email Stacey when you exit the chat room so we have your contact information and can get back to you on that, ok?
pop : *thanks
ViaVon : Jan -your question is next!
JanFL : will these paints work on fabric
Craftylady : *
Stacey : I assume since Plaid states the paints will work on porous surfaces that fabric would be okay...I would test it first though. The texture of the paint is similar to "puff paint"
JanFL : i was thinking since they didn't crack maybe be good to try thanks
SharronL-CAN : got to run folks, thuderstorm is realy right overhead
ViaVon : Ok Jan -- thanks! Cathy, your question is next
Cathy-SC : What is the "mirror finish" Mary Ellen was talking aobut
Stacey : Actually I believe she is referring to the Glass finishes....
Stacey : To use the Glass Finish you must first outline your design then fill in
Stacey : The glass finish is also great for making dew drops on your flowers
Cathy-SC : *thanks stacy, I'll have to try that.
ViaVon : Crafty Lady -- your question is next!
Stacey : your welcome
Craftylady : First, I know of a Canadian supplier of the paint may I mention them or is that against policy?
Craftylady : Next about the paint I am finding doing stroke work almost like working with white glue, not easy any suggestions on how to improve.
Stacey : I don't have a problem with that ....you Von?
ViaVon : I don't -- we're in this world to share and providing suppliers is important :-)
Stacey : First off I load my brush with the Flow medium and work into my brush
Stacey : Then I load with my colors...work in again
Craftylady : Ok they are www.beyondborders.ca located in Cloverdale British Columbia. They are the canadian distributers for the product
Stacey : Then add more flow medium
Craftylady : so lots and lots of flow medium then?
ViaVon : Thank you Craftylady! **smooches** POP - heads up on that! :-)
MaryEllen-TX : *
Stacey : That's right...gotta use a lot of it to get it blend good
Stacey : Flow medium works to thin the paint for stroke work. It does this safely
Stacey : so your completed project stays safe! It works in a similar fashion to
Stacey : Floating medium.
Craftylady : Will it make it more transparent?
merrytoday : what flow medium do you use?
merrytoday : I just ordered fini
carolhSC : Sorry I got here late..so I'm lost..missed most of the class darn!!
ViaVon : Merrytoday -- you've been put into queue
ViaVon : REMEMBER -- if you have a question, please type an * and wait your turn to pose your question
Stacey : The paint is so thick it would be hard to get it very transparent
Craftylady : ok I will try that thank you!
ViaVon : Mary Ellen -- your question is next there :-)
MaryEllen-TX : Let someone else go...I'll try again in a few...:)
pop : *
ViaVon : Alright then, Mary Ellen -- MerryToday --y our question is next then
merrytoday : what medium do you use?
Stacey : When using the Papier Paints you must use Flow Medium for stroke work
merrytoday : thank you
Stacey : your welcome
ViaVon : MaryEllen -- ?? Ready to post it now? lol
JanFL : very informative thanks Stacey
Stacey : You are welcome Jan!
ViaVon : Pop, I guess your question is next then
pop : are there different kinds of glass finishes or just clear?
MaryEllen-TX : I (blush) forgot what I was going to ask!!!!
ViaVon : rotflm
Stacey : There are 3 different kinds of glass finishes...sepia, antique and clear
MaryEllen-TX : Glad to give you a laugh, Von!!! *drumroll*
ViaVon : Pop -- did that answer your question satisfactorily?
pop : *
MaryEllen-TX : *
ViaVon : No? Go ahead then! lol
pop : more elalboration please
MaryEllen-TX : They are carrying a full line of brushes for Papier now, aren't they?
MaryEllen-TX : sorry..
Stacey : Sepia is a reddish brown finish and you can see through it, Antique is more of a "golden" brown finish and you can see through it and clear is completely clear.
Stacey : All are shiny
pop : thanks
Stacey : your welcome
ViaVon : Ok, so MaryEllen's question was next about the brushes for Papier Paints, I think
Stacey : Folk Art has created a new set of brushes that have firmer bristles so it
Stacey : makes it easier to do stroke work using the Papier Paints
Stacey : They are a bit stiffer than the traditional one stroke brushes.
KathleenL_Canada : *
pop : *
Stacey : making it easier to blend paint
ViaVon : *
ViaVon : Kathleen --your question is next then, I think
KathleenL_Canada : these finishes are new to me- when do you use them?
Stacey : What I like to do is this........ When painting a rose for example...I will add a drop of the clear glass finish to make a dew drop...I also
Stacey : like to outline and fill in butterlies with the clear finish
Stacey : The sepia finish and antique finishes are great for outlining and filling
MaryEllen-TX : *
Stacey : in flowers, leaves just about anything you can think of painting
Stacey : The glitter finishes are great
Stacey : as well
ViaVon : Kathleen, did that answer your question ok?
Stacey : The glitter makes great accents on the butterlies
KathleenL_Canada : yes thank you
ViaVon : Ok, pop -- you're next!
pop : how many glitters are there & what are the names of them?
Stacey : There are 4 glitters...their names are disco.....
Stacey : silver sterling
Mary_Ann_Mi. : *
Stacey : There is a gold named
Stacey : antique gold
Stacey : and there is one named copper
pop : which one is your favorite? describe it please.
Stacey : Personally I like the disco because it is more of a clear type glitter that
Stacey : is great to accent elements in your pieces
Stacey : Such as butterfly wings, ribbons
pop : sounds really interesting. thanks
ViaVon : Ok, my turn, my turn!! :::beam::: I have 3 questions actually ... first -- sealant!
Stacey : your welcome
ViaVon : Stacey, what do you use to seal the Papier Paints?
Stacey : I do not seal the paints myself because I find that they hold up well...inside.
Stacey : I have never tried outside
pop : *
Stacey : But if I were to seal them I would you a brush on sealer
ViaVon : Ok, now ... what about stickability adherence to wood
ViaVon : how strong is that hold bond to the surface sealer?
ViaVon : or to the acrylic paint even?
Stacey : I find they adhere well to wood....... When painting over wood they adhere well too...no problems there
ViaVon : Ok ... and finally ...
Stacey : I use latex and acryllic to basecoat
ViaVon : those brushes -- are they the same as used for the glass and ceramic?
Stacey : No...the enamel brushes are completely different...enamel brushes are very soft
Stacey : and the papier
Stacey : brushes are stiff
Stacey : compared to the original brushes
ViaVon : ohhh ... similar to oil brushes probably then?
merrytoday : *
Stacey : right
ViaVon : Ok good ... thanks! Mary Ellen -- your question next
MaryEllen-TX : *
ViaVon : yes, Mary Ellen -- your up next ! lol
Mary_Ann_Mi. : where do you buy those paints (clear & Antique) I have never seen them
JacklynPMI : Time to leave thank you so much Von for the invite ..I learned alot at this ..Everyone have a great weekend
ViaVon : Thank you Jacklyn :-)
Stacey : Right now since the paints are so new they are not readily available in stores however you may purchase them directly through me. I will be happy to ship them to you.
MaryEllen-TX : Welll, I was sitting over in the corner pouting..I thought you forgot about me!!! LOL....Stacey...my question awhile ago about the brushes...I know they make a #12, #2 Script LIner, a Scruffy, but they also have the other sizes of brushes available now also
ViaVon : Mary Ellen -- your question is next there then :-)
MaryEllen-TX : correct?
ViaVon : rotfl ok yes!
Stacey : Sorry Mary....
Stacey : Let me explain the brushes available
Stacey : There is a #16 Flat
Stacey : #8 Flat
Stacey : and a #2 script in the basic set
Stacey : you can also purchase
Stacey : a Scruffy which is smaller
Stacey : than the original scruffy
Stacey : They are currently working
Stacey : on filberts and angles
Stacey : but they are not readily available
Stacey : Thanks von
ViaVon : MaryEllen -- did that answer your question ok?
MaryEllen-TX : I ordered the Papier Paint kit off of QVC and then all the other colors from Dewberry's..I'm an OSCI..was just wondering if they had come out with 'the other brushes"
Stacey : Not yet
Stacey : soon
MaryEllen-TX : Thanks, Stacey...very informative...learned a lot!!!
ViaVon : ---> pop your question is next!
pop : I want stacey to know that I heard her speaking to donna on the shopping network in the u.s when donna was on awhile ago. I watched & listened to the show via the internet. I have visited Stacey's site & would like to send her hugs from Canada!
Stacey : Thanks Pop!
ViaVon : awwww :-) :-)
MaryEllen-TX : I've also visited Stacey's site and it is GREAT!!!
pop : gotta go. this has been great
JanFL : what is OSCI
ViaVon : MerryToday -- you're next!
Stacey : Thanks everyone!
merrytoday : am new here...can this paint be used on all surfaces?
MaryEllen-TX : One Stroke Certified Instructor
Stacey : One Stroke Certified Instructor
ViaVon : Hold up gang ... Only our questioner and answerer should be in conversation. LOLOLOL
JanFL : TY
MaryEllen-TX : sorry...AGAIN
ViaVon : Stacey, did you see MerryToday's question above about being to use this paint on all surfaces?
Stacey : No Von....
Stacey : It may have been up before I left a moment ago...please repeat
ViaVon : She inquired if this paint could be used on all products or which ones only, I believe
merrytoday : correct
Stacey : This paint should only be used on porous surfaces such as wood, cards, scrapbook paper, board games, paper mache, ect.
Stacey : The paint needs something to adhere to
Stacey : Did that answer your question merry?
ViaVon : Stacey -- how does it react to sealed wood which is typically no longer porous when sealed?
merrytoday : yes and assume it works on clay pots
merrytoday : and plastic pots
ViaVon : the same for papier mache I would assume as well?
merrytoday : *
Stacey : The surface still has imperfections even after painted that will allow the paint to adhere
Stacey : to it
ViaVon : ahhhh okay :-)
ViaVon : go ahead merry again
merrytoday : what is advantage of this paint?
Stacey : Unless you really basecoat it heavily
Stacey : The advantages are as follows
Holly : *
Alice_B-IN : *
Stacey : The paint is archival safe
Stacey : It is flexible and does not crack
Stacey : when Bent
Stacey : it is acid free which makes it an excellent product for s
Stacey : crapbookersand card makers
Stacey : scrapbookers
merrytoday : LOL
ViaVon : lol
Peni-OR : LOL
Stacey : can embellish their projects fairly inexpensively because this product goes a long wa
Stacey : y
KathleenL_Canada : just fyi-Donna's last visit to Canadian Shopping Channel was to promote this type of paint*
ViaVon : Holly -- your question is next there!
Holly : It seems to be very similar to Gallery Glass..just a different usage (are they anything alike?)
Stacey : I have not used Gallery Glass although I hav
Stacey : e wanted to try it for a while now
KathleenL_Canada : *
ViaVon : Alice B -- you're question is next there, please :-)
Alice_B-IN : I'm sorry I got here late and you might have already answered my question - do you prefer to use regular acrylic paint for the
Stacey : I am going to exit and come back my y
Alice_B-IN : main design and then outline or highlight with the papier paint?

ViaVon : Welcome back Stacey!
ViaVon : Alice -- your question is next, please!
Alice_B-IN : I'm sorry I got here late and you might have already answered my question - do you prefer to use regular acrylic paint for the main design of your project and use the Papier paint to outline or highlight?
Stacey : Okay......the last question was from Alic correct
Stacey : I have used both the papier paint and acrylic to do stroke work however
Stacey : I would not recommend using the acyrilic paint on anything
Stacey : that you would want to archive
Alice_B-IN : Thanks!
Stacey : I like to embellish using the papier paint
Stacey : mostly
ViaVon : Kathleen, your question is next then. :-)
KathleenL_Canada : do you recommend these paints on gourds and can they be sealed with an outdoor acrylic spray sealer
Stacey : Plaid recommends using a brush on sealer
Stacey : I have never tried painting a gourd with them but a gourd has natural flaws and imperfections that would allow the paint
Stacey : to adhere...I say go for it
KathleenL_Canada : ok thank you
ViaVon : Does anyone else have any questions for Stacey?
ViaVon : ok gang ... I think we can officially close our seminar presentation and have the reception time -- open visiting!
