Nancy_S :

Thank you, Von and David, for inviting me to tell you about Delta, and a big welcome to all of you who are joining us tonight.

As you may know, I'm Delta's voice on line. In 1995 I became a member of the Delta Design Force. While my job does include some design work it is not as much about designing as responding to questions about Delta, different techniques using their product, product testing, and writing articles concerning Delta products.

Delta actually began in 1962 when Wally Raley left his position in public school administration. He was a salesman for industrial coatings but before long realized that he wanted to create those coatings himself so he studied everything he could about manufacturing paints and soon he opened his own business. He lived in South San Gabriel on Delta street, hence the name of the company to which he added Technical Coatings.

It wasn't long until Wally's business was making paints for swimming pools, oil based waterproof coatings, and other products. As he learned more and saw changes in the industry, he began to consider making water-based acrylic paint. Because Delta was small he could be more flexible and before long he was making custom colors for painting Rose Parade float frames with the same colors as the flowers that would be glued to them.

Government restrictions pertaining to oil-based paints were tightened in California and Wally thought his dream was slipping away - but, he soon found that the plaster craft and ceramic market was booming and he realized the importance of developing a product that did not need firing and so came to be paint which Delta is known for today, Ceramcoat® - a combination of 'ceramics' and coatings'.

His venture was a family affair, with him, his wife and children mixing paint in his garage. They were producing 12 colors which were bottled in baby food jars and delivered to plaster craft shops in the area. When empty, they were collected and refilled again and again.

By this time Delta had outgrown their building so they moved to Rush Street. This was followed by more growth which led to another move, this time to Rowland Street in El Monte, CA, where a block of buildings became a store and customers would peruse the aisles with shopping baskets. By now the company was making fabric dye, varnish, and silk screen ink in addition to acrylic paint.

Things cycle, and the plaster and ceramic industry began to decline. Undaunted, Wally packed up his paint and made a call to Cabin Craft in Redlands, CA. To his delight, his paint was very well received!

Tole painting was big at Cabin Craft and the teachers didn't want to have to mix paints so they asked for pre-mixed colors. They also asked for squeeze bottles instead of the glass jars. Raley listened and in 1974 after adding more colors, introduced the first 2 ounce squeeze bottle with a flip top lid to the crafting and painting world.

Stencil Magic ® Stencils were introduced by Delta in 1978, the first packaged stencils that were easy to use and produced professional looking results. Wally now knew that Delta could not expand more without greater finances.
He was 70 years old when he sold the company in 1981 to Diethelm & Keller, a company based in Switzerland and the owners of SoBo glue. The company recognized the possibilities before them and began to promote Delta in the national and international market.

By 1986 Delta had once again outgrown their surroundings so they moved to Pellissier Place in Whittier, where, in 1988 Home Décor ™ gel stains and finishes, created especially for the craft industry, were made available.

In 1992 Delta gave us Stencil Magic Paint Crème, the first no-drip, blendable, dry brush paint made especially for stenciling.

1994 brought us Renaissance Foil ™ and won for Delta the Industry's Best New Art Product award, and Soft Tints ™, the first transparent waterbased paint made for plaster, resin and bisque.

This was followed in 1995 by Color Float™, the first medium on the market to make color floating easier. For this Delta was again the Industry Winner for Best New Art Product.

Delta continued to grow with a variety of products geared toward the crafter and painter. PermEnamel™, the only air cure permanent glass paint that will withstand being placed in the microwave, dishwasher and oven to 350 degrees, was introduced in 1997.

This once again made them the Industry Winner for the Best New Art Product. The Prep, Paint 'n' Protect Program was introduced in 1998 and there were 285 colors in the Ceramcoat line. 1999 saw the purchase of Rubber Stampede.

Perfect Highlight™ and Soap Creations ™ were introduced in 2000. In 2001 Delta was the Industry Winner for the Best New Art Product (Perfect Highlight™), and also recognized for the Best New Craft Product and Marketing Excellence (Soap Creations ™). For Paintability™ Delta again received the Industry Best New Painting Product Award.

Gel Candles™, the only complete gel candle program, was introduced in 2001. In 2002, Delta brought us Special Effect Glazes in Blue, Red and Gold along with Fabric Iron-On Transfers™.

Iridescent Glass Paint ™ joined the PermEnamel family with 15 color shifting paints available in 2 ounce squeeze bottles with applicator tips and in paint-pot strips. Last year Stitch Effects™ became available for fabric decorating and today there are 14 great designs in borders and project packs.

With 299 acrylic colors and all of the innovative products that Delta has introduced to the industry during the past 40 years, it is hard to imagine what creative ideas they will conceive during the next few years. Truly, if it's worth doing it's worth Delta.

And now, let me tell you about two Contests Delta is sponsoring!

One is for FabriCraft Peel 'n' Stick - a brand new product introduced just this year. There are 5 FabriCraft Collections, each of which includes a large scale design, a small scale print, a stripe for borders, and a basic texture design.

These are: Romantic Dreams, Nurturing Garden, Quilted Comfort, Paisley Fusion, and Seaside Escape. There is also the Soft Essentials Collection, solid patterns that are wonderful for lining, accent, or applique.

For contest rules and entry form, go to www.deltacrafts.com and click on the purple button at the left side of the page (FabriCraft Contest). Don't wait though - the entries must be postmarked no later than Aug. 31 of this year.

This information is also on my Delta Seminar Archive Page for later review and activity.

There is a grand prize for 1 winner of 6 FabriCraft designer packs, 1 of each collection. 50 - first place winners will receive a designer pack of their choice and 250 second place winners will get a sample of FabriCraft and their choice of a project booklet.

The Delta Painting Challenge is a contest that surely every painter will want to enter. This year there are 4 themes; Cottage, Glamour, Tropical, and Fabulously Feminine. The contest ends on September 30, 2004 and the winners will be announced around mid November.

In each category the first prize is 1,000 US dollars and a Delta sponsored 'fun day' at an SDP chapter of the winner's choice. In addition, the winning entries will be on display in the Delta booth at HIA 2005, Creative Painting (Las Vegas) and the SDP conference/trade show.

The design will be in one or more of Delta's 2005 consumer ads and a free pattern packet will be made available for consumers.

For more information please go to www.deltacrafts.com and click on the oval button - Delta Painting Challenge.

I am happy to take your questions now, if you have any!

ViaVon :  *applause*
ViaVon :  Thank YOU Nancy!!
Dave :  Thank you!!!!
Nancy_S :  You're very welcome.
ViaVon :  What a wonderfully informative presentation!
ViaVon :  I had NO idea about all of this -- fascinating!
PattyP-CA :  That was great! Thanks!
Nancy_S :  Delta does have a very interesting history.
ViaVon :  Ok, does anyone have any questions for Nancy about their products?
MaryQUE :  thank you Nancy
MaryEllen-TX :  That was GREAT, Nancy!
bsrickman :  *
MaryEllen-TX :  *
Dave :  you are next Brenda
DellaMarie :  Thank you Nancy!
AngelaA_TX :  Thank you so much.
bsrickman :  Nancy, what surfaces are best for the fabric that sticks....sorry can't remember the name right now
Nancy_S :  That would be FabriCraft Peel 'n 'Stick
Nancy_S :  ACtually, it is great for just about any surface
Nancy_S :  I've used it on papier mache boxes, wood, and glass.
Nancy_S :  But it has an adhesive back that is REALLY sticky so it will bond to almost anything.
bsrickman :  Can you tell me, does the design show well from the back..like applied to glass then work on the other side with paint, etc.
Nancy_S :  If you're asking could you see through the glass to the fabric, yes -
Nancy_S :  bit upi
Nancy_S :  OOPS
bsrickman :  ahhh good, have some ideas I'd like to try
Nancy_S :  But you would see the backing and there is no design there.
LindaS-PA :  *
bsrickman :  ooh I see,,,thank you
Nancy_S :  I might mention that the Peel 'n' Stick takes paint, varnish, Texture Magic, etc. very well.
Nancy_S :  It would be great for Altered Books, scrapbooking, etc.
ViaVon :  Did that answer your question thoroughly< Brenda?
bsrickman :  Yes thank you so much Nancy
Dave :  and now MaryEllen
Nancy_S :  There is a grid on the paper backing that makes it easy to cut.
JoanP-NS :  *
ViaVon :  MaryEllen -- did you have a question?
MaryEllen-TX :  Yes, I would like Nancy to talk a little about the new Texture Magic Paints, please
Nancy_S :  One of my favorite products!
MaryEllen-TX :  MINE< TOO!
Nancy_S :  Texture Magic is a great way to have texture on any surface. -
Nancy_S :  It will bond to glass, wood, the FabriCraft, metal - you name it.
Nancy_S :  When used with a stencil you simply put the Texture Magic on and spread it with either one of the tools made for use with the product -
DellaMarie :  *
MaryEllen-TX :  Is there anything else you can thin it with or should I say, move it around, than glazing medium?
Nancy_S :  or use a palette knife, cake decorator knife, or whatever you want to smooth it out.
Nancy_S :  When you're finished you use the knife to take the excess off the stencil, put it in a plastic bag and later use it on something else because it accepts Ceramcoat acrylic paints beautifully.
Nancy_S :  If you read my article, My Almost Painless Face Lift, in last month's issue of HOMEspirations, you already know how I re-did my kitchen walls with it.
AnnW-OK :  *
Nancy_S :  The Texture Magic comes in tubes that remind me of the cake icing in the tubes you find in the grocery store.
ViaVon :  Nancy, MaryEllen is wondering what can be used to thin it besides Glazing Medium?
Nancy_S :  There are design tips available so you can actually use it in the same way - making flowers, leaves, and things.
Nancy_S :  Well, you really wouldn't want to thin this product becuase the Texture Medium is intended to be thick.
MaryEllen-TX :  I did some roses and daises on a tin bucket with it the other day and it worked great! Are they coming out with a SILVER color anytime soon?
Nancy_S :  You control the thickness with the amount you put on.
ViaVon :  One point to note here as well ...
Nancy_S :  Possibly - this product is so well received that I do expect more colors in the future. BUt remember, you can paint it so the Silver Gleams would be great here/.
Nancy_S :  Is there something else you'd like me to tell you about Texture Magic?
ViaVon :  I spoke to Corporate today on the tips. There is a slight discrepancy of names between what Nancy Tribolet's book and the product literature shows for two of the tips
MaryEllen-TX :  Nancy, I have all the COLORS of the texture paste...and the GOLD is gorgeous, thus I was wondering if they wer e coming out with a SILVER?
Nancy_S :  You know, sometimes a name is given then changed at the last minute and things are already in the works soooo...
ViaVon :  Two of the tips were mis-named as a 9 point flower and a star. They are actually a 5 petal flower and a 14 point star. :-)
Nancy_S :  That probably was a printer's error.
ViaVon :  Exactly. :-) Also! They indicated that you can try any cake decorator tip of your choice. if it fits -- you can use it too! LOL
Nancy_S :  Or it got by the proof reader. <G>
ViaVon :  MaryEllen, did that answer your question fully ??
MaryEllen-TX :  Yes, Thank you!
Nancy_S :  Oh yes - and if you want to do your own thing you can use a palette knife and create your own textured design.
Dave :  and now LindaS, It's your turn
LindaS-PA :  I love the interior / exterior satin varnish, but would like to see it in a gloss - are there any plans to add that?
Nancy_S :  It is available in gloss. In fact, I have some right now on my shelf in the studio.
Nancy_S :  Perhaps your store just doesn't carry that. If you're at a trade show you can get it there from Delta's booth.
ViaVon :  Linda if you store isn't carrying it, please email me and we can get it for. :-)
ViaVon :  you. LOL
LindaS-PA :  Guess I have to look harder for it or find another source <grin>
Nancy_S :  Great, Von! That personal service is a GOOD thing!
ViaVon :  **waving at you Linda** LOLOLOL
ViaVon :  we custom order anything!
LindaS-PA :  Von, I'll do that
ViaVon :  :-)
LindaS-PA :  Thanks, Nancy
AngelaA_TX :  For your painting challenge, could you offer any submission advice (ie: what the judge's might or might not be looking for)?
ViaVon :  Linda, did that answer your question fully then?
Nancy_S :  WOW - now you can't beat Von's offer, can you?
LindaS-PA :  yes
ViaVon :  Angela, we'll put you in queue, ok? :-)
Dave :  and now JoanP
JoanP-NS :  Wonderful information Nancy, what are the newest trends in painting, colors, subjects and surfaces, please ?
Nancy_S :  That is in the information on the contest.
AngelaA_TX :  Perfect, thank you.
Nancy_S :  I might mention that there are colors under each catagory as well
Nancy_S :  and those are the ones that are to be used most prominately;
Nancy_S :  however, you can'n use other colors because no way could you do a complete design with only those.
Nancy_S :  That's a question many ask.
Nancy_S :  OK - the new colors that Delta introduced in both Ceramcoat and PermEnamel are the latest color trends.
Nancy_S :  Seems that BIG flowers are also hot -
LibbyA-Tn :  I saw the paste at Nationals. Can it be used with any thickness of a stencil. Some stencils seem awfully thin.
ViaVon :  Libby -- we'll put you in queue to ask at that time, please :-)
Nancy_S :  The Texture Medium can be used with any stencil. It is by far the best to use the adhesive on the back of the stencil before applying the medium, though./
Nancy_S :  Fruit is still good - snowmen never melt - and I've found that what is hot here in MO might not be in CA or FL.
ViaVon :  PLEASE REMEMBER --- if you have a question, type an * only to put yourself into queue. You'll be called upon when your turn comes up on the roster of those waiting.
ViaVon :  Joanie, did that answer your question fully?
JoanP-NS :  Thank-you Nancy, that is all good information to keep in mind and here in Canada our trends run behind the US somewhat
JoanP-NS :  Yes, thank-you Von
Dave :  and now DellaMarie
Nancy_S :  I'm in the center of the US and we're behind too.
DellaMarie :  I agree it is totally cool to use with stencils. I am thrilled it is now in colors. This is a try it you'll love it product. The palette flowers you can do are awesome. ;)
Nancy_S :  Truly, the imagination is the only limit with this product.
ViaVon :  oooh a kudo instead of a question! :-)
Dave :  and now AnnW
Nancy_S :  You can imbed things in Texture Magic - sea shells, rocks, bits of broken dishes...
DellaMarie :  LOL
AnnW-OK :  Oh, this is my first time here - I came in a 7pm, but feel like I missed everything
ViaVon :  Ann, this entire seminar will be in archive format so you can read at your leisure :-)
ViaVon :  You won't have missed a thing! I promise!
AnnW-OK :  I have never used the Texture Magic - but I take it is a sculpting paste - is that correct?
Nancy_S :  You could call it that.
AnnW-OK :  i have been into ceramics for the last 15 years and I am just now getting back to tole & decorative painting so
AnnW-OK :  getting use to the different terms for like products is a chore for me
ViaVon :  Ann, did that answer your question fully or do you have more inquiries?
PattyP-CA :  *
Nancy_S :  Do you get to any conventions such as SDP, HOOT, or Creative Painting?
AnnW-OK :  thank you - i will check the archive tomorrow to get more familiar with the Texture Magic.
Nancy_S :  Also, you can go to www.deltacrafts.com and learn more about all the products
Nancy_S :  and you can always email me, too.
AnnW-OK :  ty - I will
Nancy_S :  We're here to serve. :>)
JoanP-NS :  *
AnnW-OK :  lol
ViaVon :  As well, our products have some information for you. :-)
Dave :  and now AngelaA
ViaVon :  Angela, did you have any additional inquiries or was yours already answered?
Dave :  and now LibbyA
SandiB-NY :  *
ViaVon :  Libby?
LibbyA-Tn :  The demo showed mixing colors, do you recommend laying both colors in at the same time, or trying to put the second
LibbyA-Tn :  color in on top?
Nancy_S :  I like to make a mess of the colors. <G> Say I'm doing grapes -
Nancy_S :  I'll put on the first color then actually smear some other colors here and there. When you're through it looks pretty good!
Nancy_S :  And if you don't like it, just use the palette knife to take it off, put it in that zip lock, and use it later on something that will be painted.
Nancy_S :  It's truly a no goof product.
ViaVon :  Libby, did that answer your question fully?
Nancy_S :  Remember that since you can paint it, if you don't like what you have when it is dry no problem. Just get out the paint and brush.
LibbyA-Tn :  Oh yes, thank you very much
Dave :  and now PattyP
PattyP-CA :  If you want to forms flowers or grapes with the Texture Magic do you form them on your palette or right on your painted surface. Can they be glued on a surface later
Nancy_S :  You can do either. The 'glue' is actually a bit of the Texture Magic placed on the back of the flower, grape, or whatever.
Nancy_S :  Then you press it in place and hold it for a minute. Works best if you can lay the project down or if it's on a flat surface -
PattyP-CA :  That makes sense. You get a good 3-D affect with the product then
Nancy_S :  however, I used a stencil to make grapes and the TM on the back to glue them on a wine bottle.
Nancy_S :  When dry, the flower, grape, leaf - is flexible. A great plus!
Nancy_S :  Oh yes, it's a great 3-d effect.
PattyP-CA :  Thank you. I'm looking forward to trying the product
ViaVon :  Patty -- Did that answer your question fully?
PattyP-CA :  Yes, thanks
Nancy_S :  If you're going to do something and put it on another surface, I suggest that you do it on wax paper. It will lift off easily when dry.
ViaVon :  Patty -- you can get that product through us, by the way! *giggle*
Nancy_S :  Sorry for the bad typing - my fingers are faster than my brain. :>)
PattyP-CA :  Sounds good
ViaVon :  No problem Nancy! :-)
Dave :  and now JoanP
JoanP-NS :  I just wanted to add how much I enjoy Homespirations, a lot of hard work goes into that I'm sure ! Sounds like I need to buy some Texture Magic next and can it be used outdoors?
Nancy_S :  I am going to have to check on that one - but my bet is that it can. I know they showed it on some pieces at Vegas that I'd think might be placed outside.
Nancy_S :  If you will, please, send that to me via email later and I'll check with the lab so I can give you a for sure answer.
ViaVon :  Joanie, email Nancy (her email addy will be on the archive seminar at log-out ... to refresh and remind her
JoanP-NS :  Thankyou Nancy I will do that for sure.
Nancy_S :  I'm glad that you enjoy HOMEspirations. It's a great, innovative ezine with a lot to offer.
Nancy_S :  Any of you are more than welcome to contact me at any time.
ViaVon :  And Nancy has a GREAT story on the issue before last, wasn't it, NancY?
JoanP-NS :  its very well designed and laid out
Nancy_S :  My face lift or the engine story>
ViaVon :  The Face Lift is hysterically funny!
Nancy_S :  And much too true, too.
ViaVon :  I want you all to know that Nancy is behaving herself tonite ... she's a hoot and a half when not being formally Seminar'd! *giggle*
Dave :  and now SandiB
SandiB-NY :  What do you have to do to become a Delta person. I have heard of other people getting a box of new stuff to try free, but I think you have to be affiliated with Delta. Just wondering
Nancy_S :  I think that you're talking about their Delta Supporting Artist program, right?
SandiB-NY :  Yes, I didn't want to name the wrong title :0
SharronL-ONDisconnect:65.93.7.213
Nancy_S :  No problem. :>) That isn't my department but I'm more than happy to tell you who to contact.
SandiB-NY :  Great Thanks
Nancy_S :  If you'll send an email to either KLatham@DTCCorp.com or BCarson@DTCCorp.com, they will be happy to send the information to you.
Nancy_S :  There are some rules of course, but if you're publishing, teaching, etc., it isn't at all difficult to become a DSA.
SandiB-NY :  Thanks for the info. Gotta let the dog out now. :o
Dave :  Well, SandiB was the last person who had a question. Is there anyone who would like to ask Nancy a question?
Nancy_S :  This is your big chance, folks.
ViaVon :  lol
Nancy_S :  Don't be shy!
JoanP-NS :  How long have you been painting Nancy?
AnnW-OK :  i don't know enough as yet to know what to ask
DeborahSC :  !
ViaVon :  It doesn't have to be JUST about Delta products either -- Nancy has more knowledge than most of us could dream of !
ViaVon :  about painting in general, I mean
ViaVon :  lololol
Nancy_S :  Oh my - it all began when my oldest (who will be 50 on June 27) was around 12 (you do the math :>) and she wanted an oil painting kit.
Nancy_S :  I was fascinated and started to play in it, and the rest is history.
Nancy_S :  Well, I don't know about knowledge but what I don't know I'll make up. Just kidding, folks. LOL
DeborahSC :  hehe
Nancy_S :  Sorry Von, I've been good too long.
ViaVon :  Deb-SC did you have a question with that ! thingie? lol
Nancy_S :  That's hard on an old lady.
ViaVon :  Nancy -- let that new *do* down!
DeborahSC :  yep its me DdbyDeb Von :)
PegL-Tn :  Naw...what she dont know folks she will bend over backwards to find out for you...grin. Love you Nancy
ViaVon :  I know ... we spotted that exclamation point Deb and thought it might have been a mistyped asterisk LOL
Nancy_S :  Hey, Miss Peg!
JoanP-NS :  A lot of changes and developments during that time period to be sure. We all have tons of tools to use now.
DeborahSC :  better late than never grandson came over
ViaVon :  That is SO true Joanie!
ViaVon :  Nancy taught me how to use a brush basin correctly ... after a year of ruining brushes!
ViaVon :  She's my heroine!!
ViaVon :  those things do NOT come with instructions. :-(
Nancy_S :  You would not believe how many people ruin a great brush because they don't use a basin properly.
Nancy_S :  Well, they might one day. <G>
JoanP-NS :  The books, oh my - we have a painter in our group that talked about how scarce they were.
ViaVon :  but it's not their fault --that's the brush basin mfr's fault. lol
ViaVon :  Books are scarce, Joanie?
Nancy_S :  HUH?
DeborahSC :  Does Dleta have a program like Plaid Does for thier Product Demonstrators>
DeborahSC :  ?
JoanP-NS :  LOL, were scarce
MaryEllen-TX :  Gotta go...thanks, Nancy! Great Seminar! Hugs Von and Dave!! Waving BYE BYE!!
ViaVon :  ((((Mare)))) byebye darlin!
JoanP-NS :  tons and tons to choose from now
DeborahSC :  well there goes my damn typing already
LindaS-PA :  She's my heroine, too. You have no idea the diskspace used by all of her emails I've saved for the good info!
paula_vagi :  Nancy can paint Frost It on my glass surface then continue painting with acrylics or do I have to continue using permenamals
Nancy_S :  I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, Deborah.
ViaVon :  Linda -- I fully understand that! lol I try to archive them in our Q&A Forum for new painters to resource
Nancy_S :  You can, but you shouldn't, Paula. PermEnamel is made to work with PermEnamel and it is formulated completely different from acrylic paint.
DeborahSC :  Plaid has People who go around differnt aras demonstrating thier products
paula_vagi :  thanks
Nancy_S :  Ok, let me get back to Deborah and then I'll talk about PE.
ViaVon :  Deb -- are you asking about a program from Delta like a "helping artist" where they receive promotional items and news ect. to promote Delta products?
DeborahSC :  and i used to know what they were called 3 minutes ago
DeborahSC :  yes *LOL* exactly that!
DeborahSC :  mind is gone
DeborahSC :  :)
ViaVon :  Deb missed that earlier, Nancy :-)
DeborahSC :  sorry :( day late dollar short
DeborahSC :  i can read it in the archives
Nancy_S :  I see what you're saying now. At one time we had the DAD program. Those were people who were not on the Delta Design Force but were associates.
ViaVon :  lol Deb ... I'm sure Nancy won't mind repeating it AND it will be in the archives!
Nancy_S :  That program has been discontinued for some time now, but still there are people who do demos for Delta in their area.
Nancy_S :  Again you need to contact Barb Carson or Kim Latham for that information, and do let them know that you're interested.
DeborahSC :  oh cool does it matter that your an OSCI? :)
Nancy_S :  Many times there is an open house, grand opening, or some event where a store wants someone to demo.
ViaVon :  Deb, their email addys will be in archive and I'll extract for the Delta Archive recap page as well
DeborahSC :  I like Delta too for lots of other things
Nancy_S :  They aren't going to send one of the DDF in, and if you're there it is very possible that you'd be the one to do the demo IF Delta knows about you.
PegL-Tn :  I love Delta products....smile
SandiB-NY :  *
DeborahSC :  I teachat AC Moore :)
Nancy_S :  You might want to let Barbie Vasek know that, too. You can email her at BVasek@DTCCorp.com.
Nancy_S :  Aren't those easy email addresses?
DeborahSC :  Thank you
ViaVon :  Sandi -- you have a question for Nancy?
SandiB-NY :  Yes HOW DO YOU use a brush bin correctly? :)
ViaVon :  LOL -- visit our Q&A Forum for complete details! LOL
ViaVon :  General tips & Tricks
SandiB-NY :  OK:O
Nancy_S :  This is a LONG story. I'd be happy to go into that, but Von has it already there for you. :>)
ViaVon :  just a quick note .... the membership sign up for the Q&A Forum is temporarily turned off but you don't need to register to read the information there
Nancy_S :  It is truly important that a basin be used correctly, and too often they get a bad rap.
ViaVon :  I don't think the basins get the bad rap ... but the brushes certainly do! *snicker*
ViaVon :  Does anyone else have any questions for Nancy?
Nancy_S :  Well, I've heard people say that a basin shouldn't be used because they tear up the brushes, but yes, in the end, it IS the brush that gets it.
Nancy_S :  Hey guys, surely there's something else you want to know. :>)
Nancy_S :  A personal question, maybe? (wink)
DeborahSC :  umm just trying to remember if its your product hehe
PegL-Tn :  Hey Nancy when are you coming back to Tn...? grin
SandiB-NY :  Thanks for the seminar. This has been fun. Have a great night.
Nancy_S :  Don't know, Peg. Debra still lives in Mount Eagle so maybe one day.
ViaVon :  Thank you for coming Sandi1
bsrickman :  Nancy, does Delta ever come to Oklahoma to the Tole Country convention?
SandiB-NY :  Thanks for having me.
ViaVon :  :-)
LindaS-PA :  signing off - having bad thunder storm - thanks so much , Namcy
PegL-Tn :  Will you please give me another chance when you do make it this way again?....giggle
ViaVon :  boy THAT sounds like a story!
Nancy_S :  Ywe used to. haven't for several years. Maybe because I spilled an 8 oz. bottle of PE Surface Conditioner on a lady doing a MITI. LOL
SharronL-CA :  oops
DeborahSC :  LOL!!!!!!!!!!
ViaVon :  rotflmbo
Nancy_S :  Seriously, it is a small convention and they're not doing as many as they did years ago. It is very expensive to send in the booth, over the mountains and through the woods, you know.
Nancy_S :  I'm thinking about going to that show this year, and maybe submitting for next year though.
bsrickman :  oh no! but it would be good to have the company represented there...the gals are really bringing it back to it's old glory of years gone by

ViaVon :  Sure Nancy -- haven't got a clue what they are though. :-)

Nancy_S :  It isn't actually new.
DeborahSC :  I amen the paint that looks like paper
ViaVon :  shhhhhhhh Deb -- that's Plaid that makes the Papier Paints
DeborahSC :  is ot me and AC Moore *LOL*
Nancy_S :  Some years ago we had Paper Paint but it was not marketed well in the stores
DeborahSC :  haha Vom you mess!
ViaVon :  LOL
Nancy_S :  Scrapbooking was just beginning to come into its own
Dave :  I hope everyone enjoys these. We think they are important
Nancy_S :  and they didn't know where to put it or what to do with it.
DeborahSC :  Thats PAPIER! :D
Nancy_S :  It has been re=introduced and is now called Paint for Paper./
ViaVon :  shhhhhh Yes, that's PLAID, Deb! LOLOL
SharronL-CA :  where can you find it in canada?
DeborahSC :  I love the way it looks cannot wait to get into it and try to paint on top of it as well
Nancy_S :  Great product - non blocking, fast drying, and yes, plaid has one too. <G> Don't know the qualities of theirs, though.
ViaVon :  Sharron -- There is a shopathome website that has a kit for 50% off
DeborahSC :  nono I mean the paint that looks like teaxtured paper
ViaVon :  Deb -- DecoArt has Paper Effects ... is that what you mean?
Nancy_S :  OH - that's DecoArt, isn't it?
ViaVon :  Yes
DeborahSC :  oh heheh wrong one see
ViaVon :  ROTFL
Nancy_S :  IT happens all the time.
ViaVon :  see -- it's NOT Delta! ROTFL
DeborahSC :  err sorry Nancy smack me now OK please?
Nancy_S :  People are always going to Delta asking for a Deco product and going to DA for a Delta product.
ViaVon :  lol
SharronL-CA :  too bad my mom has left it would be a subtle hint Von for her to buy it off your website for me as a xmas present lol
DeborahSC :  hehe
DeborahSC :  <--red faced
DeborahSC :  ok but the stucco look paint is yalls right?
Nancy_S :  We can send her a note. :>)
Nancy_S :  STucco is one of the Texture Magic Colors.
SharronL-CA :  i'll ask her lol when she's feeling better
ViaVon :  Sharron -- we're going to implement a gift registry and wish list so you can share with Mom ... watch for that SOON!
Nancy_S :  What a great idea!
SharronL-CA :  oh cool Von neato
ViaVon :  we thought so! :-)
Nancy_S :  Mary, you've been way too quiet/
DellaMarie :  *
ViaVon :  Oh -- it's open floor time -- ENJOY!
ViaVon :  LOL
Dave :  Go for it, DellaMarie
DellaMarie :  Gotta go! Love ya Nancy and Yvonne!
DeborahSC :  whew got one right finallly call m,e plaid brain washed ok! :D
ViaVon :  (((((DellaMarie))))) see you soon and looking forward to YOUR seminar on the DELLA DUO BRUSHES!

DellaMarie :  Ohhhh... Waiting......
Nancy_S :  Della is a super lady.
ViaVon :  i know that to be true!
DellaMarie :  Blushing.....
Nancy_S :  Tis true!
ViaVon :  We only have seminars with super people :-)
Nancy_S :  Aw, shucks.
Nancy_S :  I'm in great company.
DeborahSC :  Von this is a great place I am sorry I didnt make it in earlier
DeborahSC :  what a wonderful thing yall do
DellaMarie :  Now I know I have to go! Teehee
ViaVon :  Deb -- set up an account at our home page ...and you'll be kept informed on ALL the Seminars.
ViaVon :  I keep adding new ones all the time!
Dave :  Did I happen to mention that I hope to have the archive of this seminar on the site tomorrow?
Nancy_S :  These kind of seminars are held how often?
ViaVon :  They are important. Not enough people can get out to those Conventions so this brings the company *home* to you
ViaVon :  Nancy -- at least once a month but more often when I can arrange them. It all depends on schedules. :-)
DeborahSC :  wonderful Nancy will you be going to the SDP Conventionin Tampa next year?
Nancy_S :  This is a great service. With so many new products on the market, it is almost impossible to learn about them without something like this.
ViaVon :  And it's something new to these companies so they are a bit timid and skeptical of them
ViaVon :  It takes me months sometimes to convince a rep to give it a try. And I pester the dickens out of them!
ViaVon :  Not you of course! *wink*
Nancy_S :  I really don't know about Tampa. However, I might be coming to a chapter near you so if you belong to one or get news letters from some, keep an eye out.
DeborahSC :  I will
DeborahSC :  goin got join the one in my area after CE
JoanP-NS :  Its a great learning forum and I love it, you get to ask and also to learn from others questions.
Nancy_S :  A seminar isn't as wonderful as a convention but it is still pretty informative and you get to do a lot of hands on as well as learn about a lot of things.
ViaVon :  Unfortunately, a lot of people can't get to conventions because of cost or health or timing ... this is as close as they get to those "booths" sometimes with live interaction
JoanP-NS :  Wahh, no conventions near me ... sigh
Nancy_S :  If any of you will be at HOOT, I will be there. Party time on Thurs. night - and it really IS a party that you don't want to miss. <G>
SharronL-CA :  i got SWOPI and if i can swing it almost Kasswood
ViaVon :  exactly ... and YOU Joanie, are one of our reasons we do these. :-)
Nancy_S :  We have to find a way to reach those who can't attend shows, and this is one great way to do it.
JoanP-NS :  aw Thanks gurlie, we all appreciate you and Dave and all your guests.
Dave :  Also, they won't let me out of the home often
DeborahSC :  unless its in FLa or Atlanta or NC I normally do not get there
ViaVon :  well ... for us too. We can't get to all those conventions either. We can't afford the time away from our business.
ViaVon :  LOL David!
Nancy_S :  Pass the word to everyone you know, because every seminar has a lot to offer.
DeborahSC :  lol
JoanP-NS :  I try
Nancy_S :  You might want to sign up on David and Von's site too. They are almost like a local shop because they offer a lot of great service.
Dave :  I'll have to make some more audio files to play
ViaVon :  You feel free to do the same too, Nancy ok? We'd appreciate the exposure and also the ideas for more Seminar themes and companies. I love cold-calling those reps and setting the ball in motion for them to come.
Nancy_S :  I'll do what I can, sure thing!
ViaVon :  **smooches**
ViaVon :  That goes for all of you here, please :-)
Nancy_S :  When I do the seminars I will put that information in my hand out packet.
JoanP-NS :  How could anyone say No to you Von ?
ViaVon :  Jee -- I should have said that at the beginning when we had a full house! ROTFL
ViaVon :  Joanie -- give David lessons, ok? *giggle*
ViaVon :  Nancy -- that would be AWESOME! Thank you SO much!
JoanP-NS :  lol, not on your Nelly - he is terrific
Nancy_S :  He is, Nelly. Even laughs at my stories.
Dave :  hehehehe
DeborahSC :  I will let my studetns know Von they love it when they can get more info lol
JoanP-NS :  All kidding aside now, Von and Dave are a great team
Nancy_S :  OOPS again, not Nelly, Joan. Silly me.
Dave :  I am taking a bow .... thank you, all
DeborahSC :  *claps*
Nancy_S :  What an opportunity to get loads of information out to the public!
DeborahSC :  oh cool!
ViaVon :  Deb -- we have audio files in here too! lol
DeborahSC :  oh I am in love toys!!!!!!!!!
Nancy_S :  Could we have a bit more applause? LOL
JoanP-NS :  clappin and dancing here
DeborahSC :  you should have never told me that Von hon! lol
ViaVon :  Yes, we agree, Nancy. :-) On any subject at any time -- this could also be used as a class room as we have the ways and means to send out to a url for tutorial worksheet, etc.
Nancy_S :  I'm going to link you to my web site.
ViaVon :  *applause*
DeborahSC :  can you do video feed?
Dave :  *blonde*
Nancy_S :  We have to all stand together or we're going to fall apart.
ViaVon :  Not here in the chat room ... but if we had an out-link to it on webpage, we can provide that.
Nancy_S :  I used to be blond - then red, then mauve, and now, whatever. <G>
ViaVon :  given that the guests had software installed to view
SharronL-CA :  *)
JoanP-NS :  dial-up
DeborahSC :  cable
JoanP-NS :  I can see it but poorly
ViaVon :  Then we would have alternative items for that issue. It could be done. Just needs time to do it.
ViaVon :  I need to find a teacher who will work for product. LOL
Nancy_S :  I don't think my reception is that good though. It breaks up, isn't always clear, and that isn't fun.
DeborahSC :  hahah
DeborahSC :  hmm
DeborahSC :  I bet there some out there Von!
DeborahSC :  ;D
Nancy_S :  You might even work a deal with a company/teacher who would like the exposure.
Nancy_S :  Good publicity for both.
ViaVon :  I'm shooting for that by next year, Deb! Trying to set up teachers to come and do lessons for food or product. L O L We're a start-up company yet -- just a year on the net so we can't afford big bucks yet for teachers, you know? :-)
DeborahSC :  you prob would hav eem breaking down your door for product lol
ViaVon :  Nancy -- I agreE!
ViaVon :  agree even! lol
JoanP-NS :  how about Marcia
Nancy_S :  I'm going to the plant next month and if you'd like, will see what they think of that idea.'
ViaVon :  I'd love to have in-house artists too for new products, but again .. that is not an affordable thing yet for us.
ViaVon :  Nancy -- I leave you in charge of our marketing ! *giggle*
DeborahSC :  Nnacy I would love to see more on the Texture paint
ViaVon :  Joanie -- I thought of her but that gal has her plate SO full !
Nancy_S :  There are so many out there who are trying to break into the teaching/publishing field, and this would be a really good way to get known.
Nancy_S :  Like what on TM?
DeborahSC :  differnt uses ect
ViaVon :  Nancy -- I love that idea ... thanks for your help with THAT!
Nancy_S :  Nancy Tribolet has a book out on the product. Have you seen that one?
Nancy_S :  She also has a video which I'm betting Von can get for you all.
DeborahSC :  besides just just put in with a stencil and paint oveer then rub and buff or drybrush
DeborahSC :  no I will look for it
Dave :  We do care the book
Dave :  carry
DeborahSC :  wll good now I knwol where to get it
DeborahSC :  its no won my list
Nancy_S :  Also, in HOMEspirations there are lots of ideas for all kind of different products so you might want to check out the ezine and print out some things.
DeborahSC :  jesh now on my list even
ViaVon :  You betcha ... and the RTG for Texture Magic
DeborahSC :  oh I have that in PDF format I have to go and look at each issue I am so far behind
DeborahSC :  have that too
DeborahSC :  have had massive schedule for classes so has been nothing but teach and get ready with samples
Nancy_S :  I didn't mention it, but on my wall I spread the Texture Magic then pressed a wet sponge into it. You can see the photos if you go to www.HOMEspirations.com and read about my face lift. I think that was the April issue.
ViaVon :  I'm trying to find time to play with the Texture Magic. Anyone have spare time to send me please? lol
ViaVon :  Deb - you're an OSCI ! I'd forgotten, sorry. Where do you teach?
Nancy_S :  Someone stole 2 days and several more hours from my week but the local cops aren't interested in investigating.
DeborahSC :  AC Moore
ViaVon :  LOLOL Nancy!
ViaVon :  That's right -- I knew that too, Deb! *duh* lol
Dave :  Hi Nora
DeborahSC :  Nora hey hon
ViaVon :  Hi Nora!
SharronL-CA :  hello nora
SharronL-CA :  *welcome*
Nancy_S :  That's a neat store. I was in 2 of them for a day out East, several years ago. Did PE instructions.
Nora :  Hi all
ViaVon :  What's PE ?
Nancy_S :  Hi, Nora. Welcome - have a chip.
DeborahSC :  Permenamel
Nancy_S :  Sorry - PermEnamel
DeborahSC :  :)
DeborahSC :  see I knew that one Nancy!
ViaVon :  Oh *duh* again. Can you tell I'm tired? :-(
Nora :  thanks Nancy
DeborahSC :  lol
ViaVon :  Nora, our seminar is officially over and we're in open floor time now for chat and fun. :-)
Nancy_S :  Have you seen the new product book on PermEnamel?
ViaVon :  It WILL be fully archived by Saturday though so you can read/review at your leisure and won't have missed a thing!
ViaVon :  What's it called, nancy?
DeborahSC :  no err use differnt product hehe
ViaVon :  rotfl
Nora :  Sorry I missed the seminar, however I enjoy chats.
DeborahSC :  but do have the whole line of PE from last year :)
Nancy_S :  Simple Glass Painting. I wrote the text and in house artists designd EASY and SIMPLE projects that can be done in less than an hour using several different PermEnamel techiniques.
ViaVon :  well you're in the right place, then Nora! LOL
Nancy_S :  I think it was at SDP.
DeborahSC :  oh wait I just might
JoanP-NS :  I've used and like PE, did some mugs with a simple pic and their name for lil gifties
ViaVon :  what year was it published/printed, Nancy?
DeborahSC :  I am an avid glass painting book buyer *LOL*
Nancy_S :  Have you seen the new PermEnamel Colors?
DeborahSC :  oh stop *sticks fingers in ears* *LOL
SharronL-CA :  lol
ViaVon :  Deb -- you have noticed our clearance books, right? *wink*
Nancy_S :  Von, I think it was printed just before SDP. I got my copy about that time if I remember correctly. I finished the text sometime in Feb.
Nancy_S :  So it hasn't been available very long.
ViaVon :  ok ... are the Wholesalers carrying it?
Nancy_S :  I really don't know.
DeborahSC :  i saw the voitives that were done with the pearl colors they were gorgeous
ViaVon :  hmmm ... making dash for update notices read
Nancy_S :  That isn't something that I keep up with but you could contact marketing at the plant and find out.
ViaVon :  will do :-)
Nancy_S :  Have you seen anything done with the PermEnamel Iridesent Glass Paints?
DeborahSC :  PE is good I like each prodcut for diffetn uses
DeborahSC :  yesss
DeborahSC :  saw those votives
Nancy_S :  And it still is the only non bake, permanent air dry glass paint on the market. <G>
DeborahSC :  sat here thinking why cant we have anything in Enamels with that finsih and color *LOL*
DeborahSC :  yeah yeah rub it in Nancy! :P
Nancy_S :  Should have also added air cure, becuase that 10 day air cure time is VERY important.
Nancy_S :  LOL, Sorry, Deborah.
ViaVon :  It amazes me how each of the companies have their own products and although they might be similiar, their applications are unique and make each one invaluable to us painters
DeborahSC :  yep
Nancy_S :  So true. That's why, even though the effect may be similar, the instructions must be read and followed if they are to work as they should.
DeborahSC :  so true
Nancy_S :  What is correct for one company won't work with anotehr.
JoanP-NS :  and we all love trying new products
DeborahSC :  if I had a nickel for every time i heard "I does not work right"
Nancy_S :  For instance, I saw once where someone said you were to rub the surface with alcohol before using their product.
DeborahSC :  and it works fine for me
Nancy_S :  With PE, you don't do that. The Step 1 Surface Conditioner is ALL that is to be on the clean glass.
DeborahSC :  of course I prep and paint it properly
Nancy_S :  It does make a big difference.
JoanP-NS :  for sure
JoanP-NS :  ppl get in a rush and don't read the directions
DeborahSC :  wll thats cause people on lists tell them its just alcohol so dont bother with buying it*shakes head*
ViaVon :  Not even for our chat rules! ROTFL
Nancy_S :  New products and different company are what make our world go round.
DeborahSC :  I mean the stuff lasts a long time so its not like your goign to have to spend a fortune on step1 to do it right
JoanP-NS :  true Von , lol
Nancy_S :  That is one of the worst things people are told about PermEnamel.
JoanP-NS :  hard to keep us in line ain't it
ViaVon :  I love it all -- love playing and experiementing. I will NEVER master a thing but sure will have had mega fun in the adventure
DeborahSC :  I know Nancy
DeborahSC :  Von same here*LOL*
Nancy_S :  I think it is becuase the bonding agents are suspended in alcohol and they think that is all it is.
DeborahSC :  but I will have a ball trying everyhting!
ViaVon :  yeppers Deb!
ViaVon :  Joanie -- you're an angel ***Hugglies***
Nancy_S :  Alcohol just happened to be the best for those agents to be suspended in - bad phrasing but still true. :>)
DeborahSC :  well if they would just look at the glass when its applied they would see there is somthing else there
Nancy_S :  I've had them rub the film off before they paint - they 'don't like the way it looks',
DeborahSC :  akk stop me I will go off on a tangent on this I swear ! LOL
Nancy_S :  Go, girl.
ViaVon :  lololol
JoanP-NS :  awww, shucks - schufflin and smilin here
ViaVon :  and the crowd *cheers*
Nancy_S :  Have any of you tried Paint Jewels?
ViaVon :  GerryLou -- are you breathing there or do we need to call out the EMT'S on you? :-)
DeborahSC :  Nancy I havent are they like Gallery Glass?
ViaVon :  hmm... I get lost in names. Describe the bottle, please?
Nancy_S :  They're in a bottle similar to the PermEnamel, but unlike that product, they can NOT be used on glass. They make a stain glass
Dave :  I get lost in bottles .... what's my name?
Nancy_S :  look on wood, papier mache, etc., and they're beautiful.
JoanP-NS :  lol, Dave
ViaVon :  ohhhhh I've seen them ,not tried them1
DeborahSC :  um Dave I think right VOn? ;)
ViaVon :  say what? ROTFL
Nancy_S :  Jewel like colors, and you use a leading just like you do for the PE Transparent Glass Paint, so you have the same look on something other than glass.
DeborahSC :  oh ok no I have not tried them yet
DeborahSC :  have to see if the store carries them
ViaVon :  Oh my gosh Nancy -- I don't have enough storage in my studio for more bottles! ROTFLMBO
Nancy_S :  If you're doing a church for a wooden village scene, they're great for the windows.
DeborahSC :  oh cool
Nancy_S :  makes wonderful jewelry when used on metal cut outs -you can swirl them for a really neat effect.
ViaVon :  Deb --if they don't ,,, we're you're favourite vendor right? Just because we don't have it on the shelf doesn't mean we can't put it there when requested. *wink*
JoanP-NS :  me either but it sounds like fun, now whose Visa can I use lol
Nancy_S :  Bet you want those now, too. RIght? <G>
DeborahSC :  boy the mamagers are gonna realy hate me now *LOL* I am bad enough with Plaid products LOL!!!!!!!
ViaVon :  LOLOL Joanie!!
JoanP-NS :  just kidding
Nancy_S :  Well, you know Delta' old slogan - if it's worth doing, it's worth Delta. LOL
ViaVon :  LOLOLOL
DeborahSC :  haha Joanie not mine you want to be able to get some stuff!
JoanP-NS :  I started with Delta
Nancy_S :  Teasing you now - all the brands are good and if they weren't they would not still be around.
JoanP-NS :  I know what ya mean Deborah
ViaVon :  I love it all *happy sigh*
ViaVon :  I want it all *envious sigh*
JoanP-NS :  they have to go into recovery mode every so often
ViaVon :  David keeps slapping my patty *weep*
DeborahSC :  hubby told me I cant spend anothr dime till I get back from CE and BEE lol
ViaVon :  oooh bad hubby
Nancy_S :  Anyone NOT start with Delta? When I opened my store it was the ONLY bottled acrylic on the market.
ViaVon :  I didn't start with it!
DeborahSC :  me
JoanP-NS :  well to heck with a dime, that will get ya no where - did he mention anything about 50 bucks lol
ViaVon :  I started with Crafters something
ViaVon :  it' was $0.50 a bottle and all i could afford
DeborahSC :  I started with Berra TRu Color
DeborahSC :  (
ViaVon :  euwwwwwwww that was a mistake
ViaVon :  not yours, deb ... mine
ViaVon :  lol
DeborahSC :  Ihehe
Nancy_S :  I don't remember who came next, but at the end I had FA, Accent, JoSonja (a totally different paint), and DecoArt.
Nancy_S :  Sold more Delta than anything else, though.
ViaVon :  true confessions ... I'm besotted with Jansen Art Traditions as you know.
JoanP-NS :  I think everyone sells more of Delta
DeborahSC :  then Gare then Duncan and Mayco( Certified teacher with both)
ViaVon :  But I'll be loyal to Delta for lots of other goodies including their acrylics because my patterns will need them ... easy for beginners to find those paints
DeborahSC :  but Beraa and Gare wher ewhen I was like 5-12
Nancy_S :  Like I said, these companies have to be good or they won't last - and some of them have lasted now for a lot of years.]
DeborahSC :  Mother had a Cermaic shop :)
ViaVon :  I was fascinated by the history of Delta, Nancy -- hokey pete!
ViaVon :  Had absolutely NO idea on any of that!
Nancy_S :  Well, thank you. I had a ball here.
DeborahSC :  then Delta and Decoart and then FA
JoanP-NS :  they all have their different applications and I use other brands too including Jansens
DeborahSC :  Nancy Thank you and Von and Dave so much
Nancy_S :  You remember better than I do, Deborah.
ViaVon :  It's lovely to see that people had an idea ... which became a dream and grew. Makes me feel there is hope for us and our little seminars :-)
JoanP-NS :  heck I would be happy to have all colors of all brands
Dave :  You are welcome, Deborah
ViaVon :  You're welcome Deb!
Nancy_S :  Thank you for being here.
DeborahSC :  thanks for having us! night all
Dave :  Take care
ViaVon :  night night Deb!
ViaVon :  thanks for coming!
