Susie-W. : Thank you, Von and David, for inviting me to tell you about DecoArt and our newest products. I have worked with DecoArt as a Product Consultant for 15 years. Among my duties is the delightful job of working in the DecoArt booth at many shows. In fact you may have spoken with either Doxie Keller, Sandy Aubuchon or myself (in the booth at a Convention) about our New Products or with questions about an existing product. I hope this evening will be like strolling down the aisle of a Trade Floor and stopping at the DecoArt booth to see our "Newest Fun Stuff" or asking that question you've always wanted to about one of our products. I'll begin by telling you a little about DecoArt. The plant is located in Stanford, Kentucky. It is a very large building, set up on a hill in the beautiful Bluegrass Region of Kentucky, just south of Lexington. The building houses all manufacturing, distribution, and office space for the company. DecoArt also has a sales office and distribution center in the United Kingdom. The history of the company is quite interesting with some little known facts. The Company was founded in 1936 by Ed Greenstreet, in Southern California. Mr. Greenstreet developed the first hobby ceramic low fire glazes and was the first in the ceramic industry to develop an acrylic paint for use on ceramic bisque, under the name of Ceramichrome, Inc. In 1973 the Tonka Corporation (that's right "Tonka Trucks") saw the tie-in between toys and ceramic bisque hobby kits, so they purchased Ceramichrome. In 1977 the Company was moved to Central Kentucky to take advantage of real estate, freight and distribution logistics. In 1983 Stan Clifford and Jim Miller (now retired) who had been the senior managers of Ceramichrome, purchased the company from the Tonka Corporation. In the early 1980's, the company began to receive many inquiries from craft and decorative painters, stating that the Ceramichrome acrylic paint (you may remember "Softee" Acrylic paints) was far superior to the existing acrylic colors available in the arts and craft market. This gave Clifford and Miller the idea to market the company's line of acrylic paints through the newly formed DecoArt division. Within 4-5 years, DecoArt's new Americana line became one of the primary acrylic paints in the arts and crafts industry. In 1997, the ceramic division and the trade name Ceramichrome were sold to Coloramics LLP, a company in the hobby ceramics field. This left the DecoArt division, whose corporate name was then changed to DecoArt, Inc. Shortly thereafter, Stan Clifford purchased DecoArt and became sole owner. In 2002 DecoArt developed a new line of paints, brushes and accessories that are marketed by the JansenArt Traditions Division of DecoArt. David Jansen & DecoArt have teamed up to develop the ideal acrylic paint that includes safety, high pigmentation and excellent blendability. Traditions has consistent open time, an ideal color palette, smooth brushability, superior light fastness and durability. It can be used on a variety of surfaces by the decorative painter and the fine artist. Since 1988, DecoArt has dramatically expanded its product offering to include over 21 different product families and many specialty products. DecoArt has been very successful in developing its international business and now exports to more than 40 countries. Our products are available with labeling in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, and Dutch. This brings us to today and the new products of 2004. We have super FUN stuff to play with this year. DecoArt has developed products that will be used with the current trends you will see for decorating and creating. First up is the trend of paper. I'm sure you've heard of "altered art", collage and the current trend for cards of all kinds. The eight lignin and acid free, nontoxic colors of Paper Perfect are absolutely "perfect" for any of these art forms and a great way to incorporate Decorative Painting into them. Paper Perfect is simply handmade paper in a jar. It is actual paper fibers mixed with a binder, which you just spread out directly on the surface to be decorated or on a sheet protector to create a sheet of "handmade" paper. It will adhere to virtually any surface. Perfect for those vinyl notebooks that we all want to paint on, but can't get anything to stick to...... or a wood piece that has "aged" too long and has dents and marks. When dry (usually overnight) it gives you a great surface for painting. Here's a tip for speeding things up. You can accelerate the drying time by using a sponge to pat on surface to remove excess water and - or place the project in front of fan. We also have 9 Paper Perfect Accents (fibers, glitters or potpourri) which you can add to or "sprinkle" onto the Paper Perfect to create a variety of one-of-a-kind textures or designs. Continuing with the paper trend is Paper Effects. This is a brand new paint in a familiar bottle. Paper Effects is a dimensional paint which dries hard, so you won't have little dents in your line work. It will not stick to itself or other surfaces. So you can add wording to cards without the fear of having the card stick to the inside of the envelope. The bottle has a standard, pointed yorker top that allows you to make thicker dimensional lines. Also included is a fine liner tip so you can make fine writing and designs. Paper Effects will adhere to virtually any surface so we can easily do intricate designs and line work on all surfaces by simply "writing" with this product. Paper Effects will be great for memory boxes, for adding detailing to the band or bottom of the box. Paper Effects is available in 11 metallic and pearl colors, along with Clear. The Clear Paper Effects is very unique. It will mound when applied in broad areas and dries crystal clear so you can see whatever is underneath it. Imagine applying over individual portions of a design for added dimension. On to my personal favorite ...... Liquid Beadz!! They are so easy to apply and so much fun that I am envisioning adding Liquid Beadz to just about everything. This is actually possible because it will adhere to virtually all surfaces. Liquid Beadz will adhere to fabric (we've used them on lampshades, journals and purses) but you should not use them on a surface that will come in contact with water or wearable fabric items. DecoArt is developing a special version for wearable fabrics using a flexible adhesive; that will be available soon. Liquid Beadz come in a 1 oz. jar that is composed of beads suspended in a clear adhesive. It is so easy to apply the beads, using a palette knife, and just allow them to dry (usually overnight). That's it! The adhesive is super strong, dries clear, and creates a permanent bond. No more waste with beads all over the floor. No more mess with a separate bottle of glue. Everything you need is in one little jar. The consistency of the product is absolutely perfect. It is thick and gives you wonderful control over where you place the beads. You can spread them over broad areas or apply just a few beads in detailed areas of a design. I used the palette knife and a stylus to guide the beads into tiny areas. Liquid Beadz are available in 21 exciting colors. There are 12 colors which are a mixture of seed and bugle beads; 8 colors of fine micron beads; and a Crystal Transparent color of small beads. The variety is fabulous. We've got several new Specialty Products too. First is the Snow Writer. It is a 2 oz. squeeze bottle filled with a textured white "snow". The bottle has a pointed yorker top that allows you to make precise line, write sayings or add details to designs with ease. The "snow" dries hard, not tacky (usually overnight), can be painted other colors and will adhere to virtually any surface. Next we have Triple Thick Brush on Gloss Glaze. Triple Thick is three times as thick as other varnishes. It dries to an even, clear, high gloss, durable finish. Available in 4 oz. or 8 oz. wide-mouth jar. This glaze is so glossy it will give the appearance of a fired enamel finish to painted items. Glamour Dust Gold is just like our well known iridescent Glamour Dust, but in a brilliant metallic gold color. This dry, fine, sprinkle-on glitter is great for adding sparkle to painted fabric and craft projects. It may be used over any wet acrylic paint, fabric paint, or sealer. It is available in 29.5 gram size (standard 2 oz. bottle). DuraClear Matte Varnish completes the DuraClear interior/exterior varnish line. This brush-on polyurethane, non-yellowing varnish forms a tough, flexible, clear finish that dries quickly. It can be used on most hard and is available in 2 oz. and 8 oz. sizes. This varnish is truly a "completely flat matte" finish. If you like to photograph your finished work, it is ideal as it will provide a totally matte finish which will not have bounce back gleams from a flash camera. Now that you've had a tour around our "Convention Booth" to see all the new products, the only thing you are missing is to meet our fabulous Helping Artist Coordinator, Rosemary Reynolds. DecoArt's Helping Artist Program was created to provide support and products to teachers, designers and publishing artists. If you teach Decorative Painting or publish original designs, you can become a Helping Artist. You can contact Rosemary by e-mailing her at rreynolds@decoart.com or calling her at 1-800-477-8478. She will send you an application to begin the enrollment process. Rosemary will take great care of you as she does for all of us. If you ever have a product question or problem, please contact the plant. You can write to them at paint@decoart.com. Thank you so much for your patience as I presented all this information. If you have any questions about the new products or any DecoArt products, I'd be happy to answer them now.

ViaVon : Let's open up the floor for general fun and mayhem, shall we? Susie_W : You can learn the same things and get the same look with Jansen Traditions. KathleenL_Canada : thank you for all the info Susie and Von- I can't paint fast enough with the new books lol FranWSC : I've never seen Jansen Traditions anywhere...where can you get them? ViaVon : Kathleen -- I'm so happy to hear that! OH by the way -- I found someone at UPS to help me -- no more issues!! ViaVon : Fran -- right here with us !!! SonjaZ-ISR : thanx Susie, you were great! *applause* KathleenL_Canada : thank you l ViaVon : You just missed our sale, in fact -- we had them on special all of July! Susie_W : Fran, once you play with them, you'll be hooked! ViaVon : That's the truth, Susie! Joanie-NS : Thank You so Very much Susie *applause* FranWSC : Wouldn't that figure? I bet...I love to mix my own colors Dave : We even have a Jansen Art Sampler Kit ViaVon : Fran -- the small sample kit is a terrific value! ViaVon : Dave -- you owe me a coke! LOL FranWSC : Thank you so much Susie *applause* Susie_W : Thank you eveyone for the "applause" I liked it! Hope you all had as much fun as I did. Great excercise for the fingers. Dave : Hahaha, finally got ya ViaVon : LOL Susie -- you packed a lot of information into this Seminar! Diana-IN : Oh yes, one more things...How quickly do these paints dry compared to regular acrylics. Susie_W : They dry the same, however there is an extender you can use to "extend" DUH the time. You are in control. ViaVon : Good question Diana -- I find they are a bit slower drying than regular acrylic ... but not that terribly much longer. And I know you have a dryer sitting there handy for your watercolour. *wink* juned-nc : I have a box painted with Traditions. I sealed it and waxed it. Now I would like to make some changes. Can I? ViaVon : I think your atmosphere ... humidity will make an impact on the dry time Susie_W : I don't think anything will stick over wax. Susie_W : Did you know that David has several pattern packets that can be painted using only the sample Kit? You can really try them quite inexpensively. ViaVon : By the way -- we give a free colour wheel with every kit of the Jansen Sampler -- it's handy! LOL ViaVon : Susie --are they on his site or in the Technical Guide? Susie_W : I Loooove Color Theory!! Makes a world of difference in your work. Susie_W : The packets are on David's site. ViaVon : Terrific! Thanks for sharing that info. I don't suppose they are free though, are they?? Susie_W : Nope, but worth the price for what you learn using the mixes. Dave : Susie, the next time you talk with David, tell him to have a seminar with us. ViaVon : I have a free pattern here at Via Von's that uses only 3 bottles of paint -- one of which is The Americana Paynes Gray and 2 of JAT's Susie_W : Such a deal! ViaVon : not full bottles either. LOL ViaVon : you'll have left-overs. :-) DawnH-Id : left overs are always great juned-nc : What is the pattern? ViaVon : Yes, I agree on the worth the price for the learning experience too! ViaVon : June -- it's called "Circle of Hearts" ViaVon : or are you talking about David's?? LOL KathleenL_Canada : well folks it's been a blast- see you again- nite all juned-nc : I'll look it up on your site. Susie_W : David's Technical Guide is great too. I've read it cover to cover and still could learn from it. Dave : Take care, Kathleen ViaVon : night night((((Kathleen))) thanks for coming! SonjaZ-ISR : Susie how long will the Deco Art paints last in the bottle before they go off? ViaVon : Yes I agree on that tech guide, Susie! Most excellent info in there. Susie_W : I've had them last a long time. I think alot depends on storage temperature changes and how good you are about closing the lid. Susie_W : I'm bad about leaving that dern lid open. Air gets to the paint and shortens the shelf life. Diana-IN : Time for me to scoot too, I'll be calling Rosemary, Thankyou for all the fabulous info Susie--Nite all! Joanie-NS : I have paint that is going on 10 years ViaVon : ((((Diana)))) thanks for coming! FranWSC : I'm going to check out the paints--thanks so much for all the information. You all have a wonderful evening--or in your case Sonya, a good day! SonjaZ-ISR : wow Joanie Susie_W : Good nite everyone ...... sorry you have to go, but so glad you came! ViaVon : Thanks for coming, Fran!! Dave : Take care, Diana Joanie-NS : I'm very good about the lids and keeping them clean DawnH-Id : thanks susie ViaVon : that does make a difference, Joanie! ViaVon : brb Joanie-NS : yuppers Susie_W : I've painted with paints at least 10 years old. The nice thing is that Americana is always the same color. Joanie-NS : and they are stored on their side SonjaZ-ISR : what do you mean by stored on their side Susie? ViaVon : back SonjaZ-ISR : sorry Joanie Joanie-NS : that was me, stored like a bottle of wine DawnH-Id : wb von ViaVon : :-) Susie_W : I think Joanie said that, but I keep mine on the side too. They're in one of those carousel thingys, lying on their side. SonjaZ-ISR : how will I know when paint is bad, by the smeel, or by the look? ViaVon : Sonja -- do you have carousel caddy's available there? The small ones hold 160 bottles of 2 oz paints DawnH-Id : i wish i had one... Susie_W : Sometimes by smell, sometimes it gets really thick.... you can't pour it out. SonjaZ-ISR : never Von DawnH-Id : its on my xmas list though...lol... heehee ViaVon : ahhh Sonja ... I wish you indeed were here ... I've got some I'll be freeing up because David needs to build me a special one to hold my Jansens which are in 3 ounce bottles ViaVon : Dawn -- we'll be implementing a gift wish feature here at Via Von's soon! *giggle* DawnH-Id : cool cool... ViaVon : Lots of new features coming in another month or so! DawnH-Id : well i just cant wait.. Susie_W : Looks like you're doing a super job! Joanie-NS : a friend made mine, they are wooden - one holds about 180 the other 250 or so ViaVon : me neither! LOLOL Dave : If I get some time to get back out to my shop I hope to make a nice one for Von ViaVon : I am anxious to try some of these new products from DecoArt! Susie_W : The trick with those carousels is to actually put the bottles back where they belong. Most of the time I can do it, but then again ... SonjaZ-ISR : Dave *applause* Dave : Thank you ... Thank you Joanie-NS : lol, I know what you mean Susie ViaVon : Susie -- what happens to them. Do they run away? lol ViaVon : **poking Cassandra** are you there? lol DawnH-Id : lol ... i have a little tub that holds mine.. not near big enough Joanie-NS : every so often ya have to "clean house" SonjaZ-ISR : they roll away Susie_W : No just create a traffic jam on my desk! ViaVon : That's true, Joanie! ViaVon : LOL Susie!! CassandraO-IL : yes mother dear ViaVon : Susie, I meant to ask you -- do you have a personal website I can add to your seminar archive page? ViaVon : Everyone -- this is my daughter, Cassandra. :-) CassandraO-IL : was feeding your grandson and watching the seminar Joanie-NS : Hi Cassandra CassandraO-IL : greetings everyone :D ViaVon : Kiss baby Max for granny! DawnH-Id : nice to meet you cassandra Susie_W : No I don't, but I have packets available on Packets Unlimited site. I have the link at the bottom of my emails. Dave : That reminds me ... I hope to have this seminar archived by Saturday CassandraO-IL : will do as soon as daddy washes his baby food gucked face SonjaZ-ISR : hi Cassandra CassandraO-IL : hello ViaVon : Susie, you need a website! :-) Susie_W : Guess what I found earlier tonight? Joanie-NS : Susie, I am in Nova Scotia - years ago I fell in love with the Santa that you did on a Santa shaped paper mache box ViaVon : Susie -- yes that is new and awesome!! Joanie-NS : I searcher for years to find that surface Joanie-NS : searched, didn't have a pc then Susie_W : Maybe Von cna find it for you. ViaVon : find a Santa shaped papier mache box? You did a santa on a tree? *puzzled look* CassandraO-IL : me too :) Susie_W : Oh good. I rememer that one. Don't know how far back they go, but all the patterns from Let's paint magazine are now on DecoArt's site. I did the tree box for them. Joanie-NS : the box is shaped like a tree, not a Santa - this brunette is havin a "blonde moment: again DawnH-Id : well everyone.. it has been so much fun.. thank you von for putting these on for us, and susie with so much information.. thank you.. but i have to leave now.. i have roses to get watered...was so nice to meet you all.. ViaVon : ROTFL Joanie!! CassandraO-IL : lol...scary when that happens ViaVon : (((((((Dawn)))))))) thanks for coming!! ViaVon : WOW Susie -- you've got an even better collectible then! lol ViaVon : lol Sonja! Joanie-NS : I like that you do your Santas in so many different colors Susie_W : When I figured out that Santa is around all year long, it opened up all the Americana colors as "fair game"! hehe ViaVon : Susie -- isn't it amazing to see what you've done in your painting career and the impact that you've had on others too? SonjaZ-ISR : Wonder what DH thinks about the empty bed till now ViaVon : lolol Sonja!! Joanie-NS : lol Sonja Susie_W : It never ceases to amaze me. When you think "it's only paint" ..... but then again it's so much to so many people. SonjaZ-ISR : I am gonna say thanx for a nice time Susie_W : Sonja, Thanks so much for coming so late ..... and for staying so long. It was an honor for me. SonjaZ-ISR : learned much from you people ViaVon : Susie -- it's the world and everything to a painter. Amazes me how I can take *nothing* and add some paint and blend and voila! Joanie-NS : I'm disabled Susie, breathing probs, and painting is what keeps me happy and marginally sane SonjaZ-ISR : 'bow' @Susie ViaVon : ((((((((((((Sonja)))))))))))))))) night night hugs and thank you SO much for coming!! Joanie-NS : Nite Sonja CassandraO-IL : nite sonja SonjaZ-ISR : thank YOU, will surely pop in next time Dave : Goodnight, Sonja Susie_W : Joanie.... let's hope it will always be your joy!
