Susie-W. :

Thank you, Von and David, for inviting me to tell you about DecoArt and our newest products. I have worked with DecoArt as a Product Consultant for 15 years. Among my duties is the delightful job of working in the DecoArt booth at many shows. In fact you may have spoken with either Doxie Keller, Sandy Aubuchon or myself (in the booth at a Convention) about our New Products or with questions about an existing product.

I hope this evening will be like strolling down the aisle of a Trade Floor and stopping at the DecoArt booth to see our "Newest Fun Stuff" or asking that question you've always wanted to about one of our products.

I'll begin by telling you a little about DecoArt. The plant is located in Stanford, Kentucky. It is a very large building, set up on a hill in the beautiful Bluegrass Region of Kentucky, just south of Lexington. The building houses all manufacturing, distribution, and office space for the company. DecoArt also has a sales office and distribution center in the United Kingdom.

The history of the company is quite interesting with some little known facts. The Company was founded in 1936 by Ed Greenstreet, in Southern California. Mr. Greenstreet developed the first hobby ceramic low fire glazes and was the first in the ceramic industry to develop an acrylic paint for use on ceramic bisque, under the name of Ceramichrome, Inc.

In 1973 the Tonka Corporation (that's right "Tonka Trucks") saw the tie-in between toys and ceramic bisque hobby kits, so they purchased Ceramichrome.

In 1977 the Company was moved to Central Kentucky to take advantage of real estate, freight and distribution logistics.

In 1983 Stan Clifford and Jim Miller (now retired) who had been the senior managers of Ceramichrome, purchased the company from the Tonka Corporation.

In the early 1980's, the company began to receive many inquiries from craft and decorative painters, stating that the Ceramichrome acrylic paint (you may remember "Softee" Acrylic paints) was far superior to the existing acrylic colors available in the arts and craft market.

This gave Clifford and Miller the idea to market the company's line of acrylic paints through the newly formed DecoArt division. Within 4-5 years, DecoArt's new Americana line became one of the primary acrylic paints in the arts and crafts industry.

In 1997, the ceramic division and the trade name Ceramichrome were sold to Coloramics LLP, a company in the hobby ceramics field. This left the DecoArt division, whose corporate name was then changed to DecoArt, Inc. Shortly thereafter, Stan Clifford purchased DecoArt and became sole owner.

In 2002 DecoArt developed a new line of paints, brushes and accessories that are marketed by the JansenArt Traditions Division of DecoArt. David Jansen & DecoArt have teamed up to develop the ideal acrylic paint that includes safety, high pigmentation and excellent blendability. Traditions has consistent open time, an ideal color palette, smooth brushability, superior light fastness and durability. It can be used on a variety of surfaces by the decorative painter and the fine artist.

Since 1988, DecoArt has dramatically expanded its product offering to include over 21 different product families and many specialty products.

DecoArt has been very successful in developing its international business and now exports to more than 40 countries. Our products are available with labeling in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, and Dutch.

This brings us to today and the new products of 2004. We have super FUN stuff to play with this year. DecoArt has developed products that will be used with the current trends you will see for decorating and creating.

First up is the trend of paper. I'm sure you've heard of "altered art", collage and the current trend for cards of all kinds. The eight lignin and acid free, nontoxic colors of Paper Perfect are absolutely "perfect" for any of these art forms and a great way to incorporate Decorative Painting into them.

Paper Perfect is simply handmade paper in a jar. It is actual paper fibers mixed with a binder, which you just spread out directly on the surface to be decorated or on a sheet protector to create a sheet of "handmade" paper.

It will adhere to virtually any surface. Perfect for those vinyl notebooks that we all want to paint on, but can't get anything to stick to...... or a wood piece that has "aged" too long and has dents and marks. When dry (usually overnight) it gives you a great surface for painting. Here's a tip for speeding things up. You can accelerate the drying time by using a sponge to pat on surface to remove excess water and - or place the project in front of fan.

We also have 9 Paper Perfect Accents (fibers, glitters or potpourri) which you can add to or "sprinkle" onto the Paper Perfect to create a variety of one-of-a-kind textures or designs.

Continuing with the paper trend is Paper Effects. This is a brand new paint in a familiar bottle. Paper Effects is a dimensional paint which dries hard, so you won't have little dents in your line work. It will not stick to itself or other surfaces. So you can add wording to cards without the fear of having the card stick to the inside of the envelope.

The bottle has a standard, pointed yorker top that allows you to make thicker dimensional lines. Also included is a fine liner tip so you can make fine writing and designs.

Paper Effects will adhere to virtually any surface so we can easily do intricate designs and line work on all surfaces by simply "writing" with this product. Paper Effects will be great for memory boxes, for adding detailing to the band or bottom of the box.

Paper Effects is available in 11 metallic and pearl colors, along with Clear. The Clear Paper Effects is very unique. It will mound when applied in broad areas and dries crystal clear so you can see whatever is underneath it. Imagine applying over individual portions of a design for added dimension.

On to my personal favorite ...... Liquid Beadz!! They are so easy to apply and so much fun that I am envisioning adding Liquid Beadz to just about everything. This is actually possible because it will adhere to virtually all surfaces.

Liquid Beadz will adhere to fabric (we've used them on lampshades, journals and purses) but you should not use them on a surface that will come in contact with water or wearable fabric items. DecoArt is developing a special version for wearable fabrics using a flexible adhesive; that will be available soon.

Liquid Beadz come in a 1 oz. jar that is composed of beads suspended in a clear adhesive. It is so easy to apply the beads, using a palette knife, and just allow them to dry (usually overnight). That's it! The adhesive is super strong, dries clear, and creates a permanent bond. No more waste with beads all over the floor. No more mess with a separate bottle of glue. Everything you need is in one little jar.

The consistency of the product is absolutely perfect. It is thick and gives you wonderful control over where you place the beads. You can spread them over broad areas or apply just a few beads in detailed areas of a design. I used the palette knife and a stylus to guide the beads into tiny areas.

Liquid Beadz are available in 21 exciting colors. There are 12 colors which are a mixture of seed and bugle beads; 8 colors of fine micron beads; and a Crystal Transparent color of small beads. The variety is fabulous.

We've got several new Specialty Products too. First is the Snow Writer. It is a 2 oz. squeeze bottle filled with a textured white "snow". The bottle has a pointed yorker top that allows you to make precise line, write sayings or add details to designs with ease. The "snow" dries hard, not tacky (usually overnight), can be painted other colors and will adhere to virtually any surface.

Next we have Triple Thick Brush on Gloss Glaze. Triple Thick is three times as thick as other varnishes. It dries to an even, clear, high gloss, durable finish. Available in 4 oz. or 8 oz. wide-mouth jar. This glaze is so glossy it will give the appearance of a fired enamel finish to painted items.

Glamour Dust Gold is just like our well known iridescent Glamour Dust, but in a brilliant metallic gold color. This dry, fine, sprinkle-on glitter is great for adding sparkle to painted fabric and craft projects. It may be used over any wet acrylic paint, fabric paint, or sealer. It is available in 29.5 gram size (standard 2 oz. bottle).

DuraClear Matte Varnish completes the DuraClear interior/exterior varnish line. This brush-on polyurethane, non-yellowing varnish forms a tough, flexible, clear finish that dries quickly. It can be used on most hard and is available in 2 oz. and 8 oz. sizes. This varnish is truly a "completely flat matte" finish. If you like to photograph your finished work, it is ideal as it will provide a totally matte finish which will not have bounce back gleams from a flash camera.

Now that you've had a tour around our "Convention Booth" to see all the new products, the only thing you are missing is to meet our fabulous Helping Artist Coordinator, Rosemary Reynolds.

DecoArt's Helping Artist Program was created to provide support and products to teachers, designers and publishing artists. If you teach Decorative Painting or publish original designs, you can become a Helping Artist. You can contact Rosemary by e-mailing her at rreynolds@decoart.com or calling her at 1-800-477-8478. She will send you an application to begin the enrollment process. Rosemary will take great care of you as she does for all of us.

If you ever have a product question or problem, please contact the plant. You can write to them at paint@decoart.com.

Thank you so much for your patience as I presented all this information. If you have any questions about the new products or any DecoArt products, I'd be happy to answer them now.

ViaVon : Before we begin the question and answer period -- is there any piece of the product information that anyone would like to see repeated here quickly?
SherylC-CA : *applause*
FranWSC : *applause*
PaulineT-Can : applause
ViaVon : I know that was a lot to assimilate at once.
Susie_W : Thanks everyone ..... hope you enjoyed the tour around the "booth" It's almost like being at HOOT!
Dave : Von ,please feel free to ask your question
MaryEllen-TEXAS : Thank you for a wonderful presentation, Susie!!! I am already a 'Helping Artist' and LOVE it!
SonjaZ-ISR : *
PaulineT-Can : *
ViaVon : Ok -- I have a quick question on the Paper Perfect
Susie_W : I'm ready Von
ViaVon : you said it doesn't stick to anything but does stick to everything. Do you mean after it dries then?
Susie_W : The product will adhere to almost any surface when you spread it directly on the surface ........
ViaVon : sorry ... that was the Paper Effects and I've gotten confused. lol
ViaVon : This statement: It will not stick to itself or other surfaces. So you can add wording to cards without the fear of having the card stick to the inside of the envelope.
Susie_W : That's why you spread it on a "sheet protector" when you want to make a sheet of paper. The sheet protector is the only thing we've found it won't stick to!
ViaVon : Ok, so I'm assuming you meant after it dries it won't stick to itself but WILL stick to anything when applied ??
Susie_W : OK .... Paper Effects. You have it right, It won't stick to itself or other things when dry, so the page of a card won't stick to the dry writing. Make sense?
ViaVon : YES, that makes perfect sense now ... Thanks!! Im' done ... who's next, Dave?
Dave : Diana_IN, please feel free to ask your question.
Diana-IN : Is it possible to get a sample pack of each of these products along with product information and suggestions for use? I am doing a Heritage Craft show in October and would like to use these new products.
Susie_W : Samples of new product are sent to Helping Artists. You can contact Rosemary at her 800 number and ask for samples. Please do sign up for the program so you'll be getting new product samples.
Susie_W : Does that answer your questin Diana?
Diana-IN : I love paper and find it terribly under-valued or appreciated. Scrapbooking has taken over any craft shops in our area... I believe everything you said.
ViaVon : The product literature will be available at log-out time, too!
Diana-IN : Yes, finished!
Dave : FranWSC, please feel free to ask your question.
FranWSC : There is now the thick gloss and new matte...is there any plan to come up with a varnish with a low-sheen such as a satin? Also, would only one coat of gloss be sufficient to get a complete coverage?
FranWSC : Thanks!
Susie_W : Our DuraClear Varnish is available in Gloss, Satin and now Matte ..... You could try that Satin. I love the finish.
FranWSC : Is that non-yellowing? I seem to run into a problem with finishes yellowing.
Susie_W : Yes, one coat of the Triple Thick ..... it is reaalllly thick .... will give complete coverage. You flow it on generously, not brush it out. Does that answer the question?
Susie_W : Oops .... missed the yellowing part. I find that the DuraClear - Polyurethane - is non yellowing. I do alot of those white Santa beards and haven't had one yellow yet.
FranWSC : Great...thank you!
Dave : Sonja, please feel free to ask your question.
Susie_W : You're more than welcome Fran!
SonjaZ-ISR : was going to ask about cleaning the brushes of the tripple glaze - how much to be flown on
SonjaZ-ISR : how will i prevent it from running from the edge?
Susie_W : You would want to clean the brush as soon as you've finished applying the varnish. I always use Deco Magic .... best brush cleaner I've found.
SonjaZ-ISR : I love the spray
SonjaZ-ISR : you said not to brush it on
Susie_W : When I varnish I "flow" on the varnish by using my brush low .... almost paralell to the surface. This helps it to flow on ..... not brush out.
Susie_W : Only flow until you run out of varnish, then reload.
SonjaZ-ISR : OK thank you!
Dave : Pauline, please feel free to ask your question.
PaulineT-Can : Thank you, Dave. Susie, I paint on glassware, can Triple Thick Brush on Gloss Glaze and Dura Clear matte Varnish be use on glassware. Also, will it be available in Canada? If not, when?
Susie_W : To prevent runs over the edge. Don't begin stroking at the edge. Begin in the middle and go to the edge. When I finish applying I always run my finger around the bottom side to catch any runs.
Susie_W : I don't think it will give proper protection to glass. Might adhere, but that is chancey. Not sure about the availability in Canada....
SonjaZ-ISR : *
ViaVon : Pauline -- we ship to Canada so not to worry about availability. :-)
PaulineT-Can : It sounds like a great product to experiment with on glass. I'll have to keep watching for it.
Susie_W : We would love all of our Distributors to handle all of our products, but that is their decision. The best thing to do is to request the product where you normally purchse DecoArt supplies
Susie_W : Von beat me to it!!! Orde from her!!!
PaulineT-Can : This is my first time on this chat. Would I go directly to the company for orders?
ViaVon : LOL Susie !! We'll be carrying quite a bit of the line soon. :-)
Susie_W : Pauline, Deco Art does not sell directly to consumers. We sell to distributors, who sell to stores, who sell to consumers.
Susie_W : Von is your best bet!
PaulineT-Can : Thank you. You have answered all my questions. Great site.
ViaVon : Just keep in mind that even if a product is not on our site, we can probably get it for you from our suppliers and we'll do our best to do that for everyone. :-)
Dave : Sonja, please feel free to ask your question.
SonjaZ-ISR : the liquid beadz, does it dry in a solid peace?
SonjaZ-ISR : or is it 3D?
MaryEllen-TEXAS : *
Susie_W : Sonja, Yes it does dry solid .... raised by how ever many beads you apply. It is really hard. My description is "hard as a carp" hehehe I think Johnny Carson used to use that saying
SonjaZ-ISR : I mean does it look like the beads are set in glass, without standing out?
Susie_W : Is that clear??
SonjaZ-ISR : or is it like a cluster?
Susie_W : No, the beads are standing out. You can actually feel the bumps of the beads. You can put it on as thick as you want.
SonjaZ-ISR : OK, understood, thanx!
Dave : Does that answer your question, Sonja?
Susie_W : The adhesive drys clear, so you just see beads.
SonjaZ-ISR : yes it does, thanx
Dave : MaryEllen, please feel free to ask your question.
MaryEllen-TEXAS : LOLOLOLOL I forgot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
ViaVon : lolol
Dave : That's an easy one
SonjaZ-ISR : *
MaryEllen-TEXAS : OH, I remember.....
MaryEllen-TEXAS : On the Triple Thick Glaze....do you find it 'bubbles' if you use a dense foam roller?
Susie_W : I have not used a roller, but I think it would. It is so easy to brush on. The trick it to not mess or play with it. Just flow on and let it be. Think of it as self leveling. Let the varnish do the work .......
MaryEllen-TEXAS : Don't get me wrong...it's a GREAT finish....
Susie_W : Does that answer the question Mary Ellen?
MaryEllen-TEXAS : she just finished answering it....I PLAY too LONG!!!! LOL LOL
Dave : Sonja, please feel free to ask your question.
SonjaZ-ISR : will the 'paper perfect' stick to tin?
Susie_W : Most people do that with varnish. We make it too hard.
Carol_P_-_NY : *
Susie_W : Yes, Sonja Paper Perfect will stick to tin .... and almost everything else!! Does that answer?
SonjaZ-ISR : yes, and thanx, that was all for me tonight
Dave : Carol_P, please feel free to ask your question.
Carol_P_-_NY : Is the Triple Thick comparable to EnviroTex Lite
Susie_W : So glad you stayed up for the class!
Susie_W : I'm not sure as I haven't used EnviroTex Lite. I do know that many of the thick varnish type applications are toxic and smelly. Triple Thick is totally non-toxic and doesn't smell too bad.
Carol_P_-_NY : Also, I am a Helping Artist and teach at Michael's in the Buffalo, NY area. One Stroke has corporate classes there. Why can't the "Everyone Can Paint" Program be introduced in the same way?
Susie_W : Does that answer the question .... sort of??
Carol_P_-_NY : I teach it in other locales, but would love to be able to offer the kits there.
Susie_W : The key word here is Corporate. We would love to have DPE taught in Michaels, but that decision comes from their company .......
Carol_P_-_NY : Maybe some day?
Susie_W : We have found that some individual managers of Michaels are more cooperative with classes and allow the program to be taught in their stores
Susie_W : You might ask. It is a great program for teaching beginners .......
SonjaZ-ISR : *
Carol_P_-_NY : We just got a new manager - maybe we could try asking
Susie_W : BTW we also have additional patterns available now. I think they are on the DPE website. Does that answer?
Carol_P_-_NY : Thank you!
Dave : Sonja, please feel free to ask your question.
SonjaZ-ISR : waiting for the sun to rise, so might as well ask another question *)
ViaVon : lol !!
SonjaZ-ISR : you mentioned the sheet protector
Susie_W : We have to keep you awake some way.
SonjaZ-ISR : how is it been sold?
SonjaZ-ISR : we have the paper perfect here
SonjaZ-ISR : lol
Susie_W : I think this is an "international issue" hehehe. Sheet protectors here are purchased in an office supply store. They are plastic ..... like an envelope to fit a sheet of paper....
Carol_P_-_NY : *
SonjaZ-ISR : lol :D
Susie_W : They have 3 holes on one side to put them in a ring binder. You may need to look where you find office supplies. Does that answe the quesiton?
SonjaZ-ISR : blond moment................. lol
ViaVon : lol
Susie_W : I understand as I'm blonde too!
ViaVon : *
SonjaZ-ISR : I thought it was from Decoart
ViaVon : rotfl
SonjaZ-ISR : thanx1
Dave : Carol_P, please feel free to ask your question.
Carol_P_-_NY : Will your Helping Artists be receiving these new products soon?
Susie_W : I think the Helping Artist samples have been sent out as I received mine. If you haven't gotten yours, you should check with Rosemary. Sometimes a name can get "lost" in the data base. Check to be sure your name is on the current list.
Carol_P_-_NY : Can't wait - looking forward to it. We need to compete with scrapbooking (or join them). Thank you.
Susie_W : Maybe UPS did another lost package thing?? Does that answer the question?
Carol_P_-_NY : Yes - I will call Rosemary tomorrow
Dave : Von, do you have another question?
ViaVon : Yes, several actually! They've been building up! *giggle*
Susie_W : Joining them is a good way to let the Scrapbookers know how much painting can add to their pages.
ViaVon : First off ... the Triple ThicK Brush On Gloss -- is it waterproof?
Susie_W : I believe the Triple Thick is waterproof to the extent that you can wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth ..... but it is not exterior varnish ......
ViaVon : Ok, thanks !!! #2 -- What is DPE stand for?
FranWSC : *
Susie_W : One thing that needs to be known about this glaze is that it has an extremely looooong cure time. It will appear dry, but because of the thickness will not get totally cured for at least 1 week.
ViaVon : wow -- that's good to know! lol
Susie_W : DPE is Decorative Painting for Everyone, our program for teaching beginners.
ViaVon : OHhhhhhhh ... I didn't realize you had that! Thanks! ....
Susie_W : Does that do it or are the questions still bubbling???
ViaVon : Question #3 --
ViaVon : Can you share a bit of the details on the Helping Artist program for us?
SonjaZ-ISR : *
Susie_W : The Helping Artist Program was created to support teachers. DecoArt has always believed that teachers and designers were key to the industry.
ViaVon : And can the Helping Artists contact Rosemary for that DPE??
Susie_W : We supply products to our Helping Artists for design work, classes taught to any NON-Profit event or group ......
Susie_W : and send them samples of new products to include in their classes and designs. It is a great program and Rosemary Reynolds is FANTASTIC in helping with many things.
Joanie-NS : *
MaryEllen-TEXAS : Thanks a BUNCH for the GREAT PRESENTATION, SUSIE!!! I gotta go..hubby driving up!!!! WONDERFUL seminar and Information!!!!!!!!!!! HUGS!
Dave : Does that do it for your questions, Von?
Diana-IN : *
Susie_W : There is a website for the Decorative Painting for Everyone program. Sorry I don't have the address at my fingertips, but it is linked from the DecoArt site.
MaryEllen-TEXAS : Nite, Von and Dave!!! Thanks for having US!!!!!
ViaVon : Yes, thank you SO much, Susie!!
Linda-OR : Thank you so much I have to go and pack for my weekend painting trip this was fun. Thanks again
Susie_W : You can also "Google" on the name.
Dave : FranWSC, please feel free to ask your question.
FranWSC : Does DecoArt have a outdoor varnish? Could you use the triple coat gloss and overcoat it with an exterior do you think?
Susie_W : DuraClear Varnish is an exterior varnish. I wouldn't cover over Triple Thick with that. Although they are probably compatable, I don't think it would be a good idea. .......
Susie_W : I use DuraClear all the time...... and the gloss most of the time. You can apply mutliple coats of DuraClear Gloss and get the same effect with sure exterior protection.
Susie_W : Does that answer the question?
FranWSC : Yes, thank you!
Dave : Sonja, please feel free to ask your question.
SonjaZ-ISR : will the triple gloss get dust stuck to it during that curing time? And does it have to be flat, for the varnish not to 'run'
SonjaZ-ISR : flow is the word, sorry my English is not so good
Susie_W : I don't think it will gather dust as it will appear dry in a few hours. It will just be "tender" and you can leave fingerprints or marks from bubble wrap until it is cured .......
Susie_W : It is quite thick and probably is best applied flat. I'm not sure if I understand the question, but this may apply .......
Susie_W : I have seen upright projects, like a vase or bowl finished with Triple Thick. You may have to apply a thinner coat on upright projects ....
SonjaZ-ISR : I asked if the object should ly flat during the curing period
Susie_W : to prevent runs. Then coat again.... You don't have to have it flat during the cure time. It will appear dry and be stable ... not run. Just "tender". Does that make sense?
SonjaZ-ISR : yes thanx!
Dave : Do you have any other questions, Sonja?
SonjaZ-ISR : no thank you Dave
Dave : Joanie-NS, please feel free to ask your question.
Joanie-NS : A local group of ladies from the hall assoc. have asked me to teach them tole painting, just for fun - does that mean I could get them supplies and DPE info ? Or is there a minimum # of students required ?
Susie_W : When ordering the kits for DPE there is a minimum amount. DecoArt pays the shipping on the kits, so to make it economical there has to be a minimum amount ordered .......
Susie_W : I don't want to give you the wrong amounts, so it's best to call Rosemary. They have all the information at their fingertips. Does that answer the question?
Joanie-NS : Yes, thank-you Susie, and I just want to tell you that I love your Santas
Dave : Diana-IN, please feel free to ask your question.
Susie_W : Joanie ... Thanks so much and a big HoHo to you!!
Diana-IN : Is there a best time to contact Rosemary?
Joanie-NS : lol
Susie_W : The plant is open Mon - Fri 8am - 5am EST. You can call during any of those hours. If she is busy with something you should just leave voice mail. You can also email her at rreynolds@decoart.com. Does that answer the question?
Diana-IN : Yes thankyou, great class...so glad I could make it..
Susie_W : Oops....... that's Standard or Daylight .... whatever we happen to be on??
ViaVon : lolol
Dave : I would like to add that we have information available for you when you logout tonight. You will be able to download all sorts of good stuff. Meanwhile, are there any more questions?
Susie_W : That was a little blonde moment!
ViaVon : We've been sneaking behind chat here look at the website and cannot locate the information on the DPA ... will you email that informational link so we can add it to this transcript?
juned-nc : *
Susie_W : Is everyone getting tired?? I'm on West coast time and just getting warmed up
ViaVon : That comment was for you, Susie ... sorry ... I should have stipulated that. :-)
Dave : Juned-nc, please feel free to ask your question.
Susie_W : I will do that ..... sorry I didn't have it. Did you try www.decorativepaintingforeveryone.com? Seems like that might be it.
juned-nc : Is there any chance that DecoArt will put out an 8oz. bottle of glazing medium?
ViaVon : ohhhhh ok! it's not at the decoart site then! lol That explains it!
ViaVon : Yes, that's the site, thanks Susie!
Susie_W : I believe Glazing medium is now available in an 8 oz. size. The "technically correct' hehe name is Faux Glazing Medium. It is possible that the store you shop at may not carry it .......
ViaVon : June -- the Clear Glaze is available with us in 8 ounce
Susie_W : You can check. I think Von should be able to get it for you. Does that answer the question
KathleenL_Canada : *
juned-nc : The stores around here feature Plaid and don't put out a lot of DecoArt or Delta.
ViaVon : **waving at June** :-) We can help with that! LOLOL
juned-nc : Thanks, Von.
Susie_W : We certainly wish they would! The best thing to do is to ask for our products. Demand can influence stock.
ViaVon : You're welcome, June -- just email and ask for what you may need ... even if it isn't on the site, we'll do our best to get it for you!
Susie_W : How great that you have Von and David to get the product you want. We love that!
Dave : KathleenL, please feel free to ask your question.
KathleenL_Canada : any new colours this yr? my daughter wants to know
juned-nc : Sorry, I was interrupted. DDewberry is promoted but nothing else
Susie_W : There were not any new Americana colors introduced this year. I think they were too busy making all the fun new things we have. Maybe next year.
KathleenL_Canada : ty
ViaVon : lolol
Dave : Are there any more questions?
Susie_W : June ..... DDewberry is certainly visible and thankfully is introducing many people to painting. It's up to us to take those beginners on into other styles of painting. I think we can do it!!
juned-nc : That is exactly what started me painting 2 1/2 years ago. But now I wish DecoArt would promote like they do.
Dave : Von, you have a question don't you?
Susie_W : We will certainly try! Thanks
ViaVon : Susie -- I noticed you didn't really speak on the Jansen Art Traditions line of paint. Can you share a bit about those paints with us?
Susie_W : The Jansen Art Traditions are great. They have really strong pigmentation and are great for many types of painting......
Susie_W : If you want to study color theory, they are fabulous. You see color changes, when mixing, like Right NOW!!
ViaVon : very true! They are fully compatible with the Americana acrylics, too -- correct?
Susie_W : I think we will see many, many uses for these paints as various artists start exploring what can be done with them.
Susie_W : They are also completely compatible with Americanas so can be used for glazing over established painting to add more depth and extra PUNCH!
ViaVon : I love the JAT's fully, completely, devotedly, besottedly. I'm head-over-heels in fact. LOL
Susie_W : Super fun to play with. Is there anything particular you wanted to know about them?
ViaVon : nope .. just to get my favourite subject in here tonite. LOLOLOOL
Diana-IN : Von! You put your skirt down...now! Shocking!
SonjaZ-ISR : are they acrylic paints/
Susie_W : They feel super creamy don't they? It almost feels "sinful" to paint! hehehe
ViaVon : I wish all beginners would start with these paints. The way they come off the brush is a great boost for a beginner.
ViaVon : LOL Diana!
ViaVon : Yes Sonja --- pure acrylic pigment -- unique and special!
SonjaZ-ISR : 'come off the brush' *applause*
Joanie-NS : They are fabulous!!!
SonjaZ-ISR : will have to look if they stock them here
ViaVon : LOL ::::beam::: I truly support and endorse the line ... and the fact that they are compatible with the Americana by DecoArt is a double-boost!
Susie_W : They are a completely new resin. Not technically acrylic, but water soluble. They can work like an acrylic, or a watercolor, or an oil paint. Depending on what medium and style of painting you use.
ViaVon : If not -- Sonja , we would be happy to help with that! LOL
ViaVon : That's true, Susie -- thank you for clarifying that!
SonjaZ-ISR : Von I am glad i live far from you *)
ViaVon : ROTFL Susie!!! Only as far as the Postal Office!!!
ViaVon : Susie -- thank you for a truly wonderful presentation!!
Susie_W : Anyone who has painted in oils would love them. Oil painters are forced to learn color theory and mixing because they use pure color......
ViaVon : *applause*
Dave : I want to thank you very much, Susie. That was wonderful!

ViaVon : Let's open up the floor for general fun and mayhem, shall we?
Susie_W : You can learn the same things and get the same look with Jansen Traditions.
KathleenL_Canada : thank you for all the info Susie and Von- I can't paint fast enough with the new books lol
FranWSC : I've never seen Jansen Traditions anywhere...where can you get them?
ViaVon : Kathleen -- I'm so happy to hear that! OH by the way -- I found someone at UPS to help me -- no more issues!!
ViaVon : Fran -- right here with us !!!
SonjaZ-ISR : thanx Susie, you were great! *applause*
KathleenL_Canada : thank you l
ViaVon : You just missed our sale, in fact -- we had them on special all of July!
Susie_W : Fran, once you play with them, you'll be hooked!
ViaVon : That's the truth, Susie!
Joanie-NS : Thank You so Very much Susie *applause*
FranWSC : Wouldn't that figure? I bet...I love to mix my own colors
Dave : We even have a Jansen Art Sampler Kit
ViaVon : Fran -- the small sample kit is a terrific value!
ViaVon : Dave -- you owe me a coke! LOL
FranWSC : Thank you so much Susie *applause*
Susie_W : Thank you eveyone for the "applause" I liked it! Hope you all had as much fun as I did. Great excercise for the fingers.
Dave : Hahaha, finally got ya
ViaVon : LOL Susie -- you packed a lot of information into this Seminar!
Diana-IN : Oh yes, one more things...How quickly do these paints dry compared to regular acrylics.
Susie_W : They dry the same, however there is an extender you can use to "extend" DUH the time. You are in control.
ViaVon : Good question Diana -- I find they are a bit slower drying than regular acrylic ... but not that terribly much longer. And I know you have a dryer sitting there handy for your watercolour. *wink*
juned-nc : I have a box painted with Traditions. I sealed it and waxed it. Now I would like to make some changes. Can I?
ViaVon : I think your atmosphere ... humidity will make an impact on the dry time
Susie_W : I don't think anything will stick over wax.
Susie_W : Did you know that David has several pattern packets that can be painted using only the sample Kit? You can really try them quite inexpensively.
ViaVon : By the way -- we give a free colour wheel with every kit of the Jansen Sampler -- it's handy! LOL
ViaVon : Susie --are they on his site or in the Technical Guide?
Susie_W : I Loooove Color Theory!! Makes a world of difference in your work.
Susie_W : The packets are on David's site.
ViaVon : Terrific! Thanks for sharing that info. I don't suppose they are free though, are they??
Susie_W : Nope, but worth the price for what you learn using the mixes.
Dave : Susie, the next time you talk with David, tell him to have a seminar with us.
ViaVon : I have a free pattern here at Via Von's that uses only 3 bottles of paint -- one of which is The Americana Paynes Gray and 2 of JAT's
Susie_W : Such a deal!
ViaVon : not full bottles either. LOL
ViaVon : you'll have left-overs. :-)
DawnH-Id : left overs are always great
juned-nc : What is the pattern?
ViaVon : Yes, I agree on the worth the price for the learning experience too!
ViaVon : June -- it's called "Circle of Hearts"
ViaVon : or are you talking about David's?? LOL
KathleenL_Canada : well folks it's been a blast- see you again- nite all
juned-nc : I'll look it up on your site.
Susie_W : David's Technical Guide is great too. I've read it cover to cover and still could learn from it.
Dave : Take care, Kathleen
ViaVon : night night((((Kathleen))) thanks for coming!
SonjaZ-ISR : Susie how long will the Deco Art paints last in the bottle before they go off?
ViaVon : Yes I agree on that tech guide, Susie! Most excellent info in there.
Susie_W : I've had them last a long time. I think alot depends on storage temperature changes and how good you are about closing the lid.
Susie_W : I'm bad about leaving that dern lid open. Air gets to the paint and shortens the shelf life.
Diana-IN : Time for me to scoot too, I'll be calling Rosemary, Thankyou for all the fabulous info Susie--Nite all!
Joanie-NS : I have paint that is going on 10 years
ViaVon : ((((Diana)))) thanks for coming!
FranWSC : I'm going to check out the paints--thanks so much for all the information. You all have a wonderful evening--or in your case Sonya, a good day!
SonjaZ-ISR : wow Joanie
Susie_W : Good nite everyone ...... sorry you have to go, but so glad you came!
ViaVon : Thanks for coming, Fran!!
Dave : Take care, Diana
Joanie-NS : I'm very good about the lids and keeping them clean
DawnH-Id : thanks susie
ViaVon : that does make a difference, Joanie!
ViaVon : brb
Joanie-NS : yuppers
Susie_W : I've painted with paints at least 10 years old. The nice thing is that Americana is always the same color.
Joanie-NS : and they are stored on their side
SonjaZ-ISR : what do you mean by stored on their side Susie?
ViaVon : back
SonjaZ-ISR : sorry Joanie
Joanie-NS : that was me, stored like a bottle of wine
DawnH-Id : wb von
ViaVon : :-)
Susie_W : I think Joanie said that, but I keep mine on the side too. They're in one of those carousel thingys, lying on their side.
SonjaZ-ISR : how will I know when paint is bad, by the smeel, or by the look?
ViaVon : Sonja -- do you have carousel caddy's available there? The small ones hold 160 bottles of 2 oz paints
DawnH-Id : i wish i had one...
Susie_W : Sometimes by smell, sometimes it gets really thick.... you can't pour it out.
SonjaZ-ISR : never Von
DawnH-Id : its on my xmas list though...lol... heehee
ViaVon : ahhh Sonja ... I wish you indeed were here ... I've got some I'll be freeing up because David needs to build me a special one to hold my Jansens which are in 3 ounce bottles
ViaVon : Dawn -- we'll be implementing a gift wish feature here at Via Von's soon! *giggle*
DawnH-Id : cool cool...
ViaVon : Lots of new features coming in another month or so!
DawnH-Id : well i just cant wait..
Susie_W : Looks like you're doing a super job!
Joanie-NS : a friend made mine, they are wooden - one holds about 180 the other 250 or so
ViaVon : me neither! LOLOL
Dave : If I get some time to get back out to my shop I hope to make a nice one for Von
ViaVon : I am anxious to try some of these new products from DecoArt!
Susie_W : The trick with those carousels is to actually put the bottles back where they belong. Most of the time I can do it, but then again ...
SonjaZ-ISR : Dave *applause*
Dave : Thank you ... Thank you
Joanie-NS : lol, I know what you mean Susie
ViaVon : Susie -- what happens to them. Do they run away? lol
ViaVon : **poking Cassandra** are you there? lol
DawnH-Id : lol ... i have a little tub that holds mine.. not near big enough
Joanie-NS : every so often ya have to "clean house"
SonjaZ-ISR : they roll away
Susie_W : No just create a traffic jam on my desk!
ViaVon : That's true, Joanie!
ViaVon : LOL Susie!!
CassandraO-IL : yes mother dear
ViaVon : Susie, I meant to ask you -- do you have a personal website I can add to your seminar archive page?
ViaVon : Everyone -- this is my daughter, Cassandra. :-)
CassandraO-IL : was feeding your grandson and watching the seminar
Joanie-NS : Hi Cassandra
CassandraO-IL : greetings everyone :D
ViaVon : Kiss baby Max for granny!
DawnH-Id : nice to meet you cassandra
Susie_W : No I don't, but I have packets available on Packets Unlimited site. I have the link at the bottom of my emails.
Dave : That reminds me ... I hope to have this seminar archived by Saturday
CassandraO-IL : will do as soon as daddy washes his baby food gucked face
SonjaZ-ISR : hi Cassandra
CassandraO-IL : hello
ViaVon : Susie, you need a website! :-)
Susie_W : Guess what I found earlier tonight? DecoArt has product technique videos on their website. I watched one and it was pretty neat.
ViaVon : hi Mpdigh -- I'm so sorry , our seminar has officially concluded but you're welcome to stay and visit!
Joanie-NS : Susie, I am in Nova Scotia - years ago I fell in love with the Santa that you did on a Santa shaped paper mache box
ViaVon : Susie -- yes that is new and awesome!!
Joanie-NS : I searcher for years to find that surface
Joanie-NS : searched, didn't have a pc then
Susie_W : Maybe Von cna find it for you.
ViaVon : find a Santa shaped papier mache box? I'm off on an adventure then!
Joanie-NS : I found it - now to find the pattern again lol
CassandraO-IL : i can look out here for you as well
ViaVon : well i guess my adventure landed at Joanie's foot! ROTFL
Susie_W : That's a tough one ..... at least around here.
Joanie-NS : Santa, duh - tree shapped
ViaVon : Ohhh a tree? You did a santa on a tree? *puzzled look*
CassandraO-IL : me too :)
Susie_W : Oh good. I rememer that one. Don't know how far back they go, but all the patterns from Let's paint magazine are now on DecoArt's site. I did the tree box for them.
Joanie-NS : the box is shaped like a tree, not a Santa - this brunette is havin a "blonde moment: again
DawnH-Id : well everyone.. it has been so much fun.. thank you von for putting these on for us, and susie with so much information.. thank you.. but i have to leave now.. i have roses to get watered...was so nice to meet you all..

CassandraO-IL : goodbye dawn nice meeting you
DawnH-Id : thank you... you all have a great nite, and sonja have a wonderful day.. get some sleep girl!
ViaVon : Susie -- is Let's Paint! magazine published by DecoArt?
SonjaZ-ISR : thanx dawn
Joanie-NS : I have the magazine too, again .... somewhere
ViaVon : lolol joanie
Susie_W : It was ...... no longer in publication. They had some great designs over the year.
Joanie-NS : I loved them
ViaVon : wow ... what a shame. Joanie you've got a collectible!!
Susie_W : I've still got the box!
Joanie-NS : its a beautiful design
SonjaZ-ISR : Dawn has left and from my window I can see dawn arrived.................
Susie_W : I think that could have been my "first" published design.
ViaVon : WOW Susie -- you've got an even better collectible then! lol
ViaVon : lol Sonja!
Joanie-NS : I like that you do your Santas in so many different colors
Susie_W : When I figured out that Santa is around all year long, it opened up all the Americana colors as "fair game"! hehe
ViaVon : Susie -- isn't it amazing to see what you've done in your painting career and the impact that you've had on others too?
SonjaZ-ISR : Wonder what DH thinks about the empty bed till now
ViaVon : lolol Sonja!!
Joanie-NS : lol Sonja
Susie_W : It never ceases to amaze me. When you think "it's only paint" ..... but then again it's so much to so many people.
SonjaZ-ISR : I am gonna say thanx for a nice time
Susie_W : Sonja, Thanks so much for coming so late ..... and for staying so long. It was an honor for me.
SonjaZ-ISR : learned much from you people
ViaVon : Susie -- it's the world and everything to a painter. Amazes me how I can take *nothing* and add some paint and blend and voila!
Joanie-NS : I'm disabled Susie, breathing probs, and painting is what keeps me happy and marginally sane
SonjaZ-ISR : 'bow' @Susie
ViaVon : ((((((((((((Sonja)))))))))))))))) night night hugs and thank you SO much for coming!!
Joanie-NS : Nite Sonja
CassandraO-IL : nite sonja
SonjaZ-ISR : thank YOU, will surely pop in next time
Dave : Goodnight, Sonja
Susie_W : Joanie.... let's hope it will always be your joy!
ViaVon : we're honoured, Sonja!
Joanie-NS : for almost 2 years I was afraid to open a bottle of paint, I felt if I had lost that - due to the smell or something - that I would just give up
SonjaZ-ISR : night Dave , Joanie, Cassandra, Von and ;) Susie
Joanie-NS : talk about happy when I found that I could still use most things ....
ViaVon : ((((Joanie))))) glad you opened that bottle of paint!
ViaVon : What kinds of things can't you use now Joanie?
Susie_W : Another thing to love about non-toxic stuff!
ViaVon : i second that!
Joanie-NS : me too, things like Krylon and sprays are out
Dave : I'm going to say by by also. Take care, Everyone and thank you again Susie for a wonderful evening
ViaVon : oh yes ... those sprays!

ViaVon : ((((Dave)))) thanks honey !!! **smoocheS**
Susie_W : By Dave!!!!!!!! Thanks!!
CassandraO-IL : bye dave
Joanie-NS : anything that is oil based - some of the antiquing products
Joanie-NS : Nite Dave and Thank You
ViaVon : yep ... i understand the oil based stuff ... that's frightening
ViaVon : I passed along the message to dave for you joanie :-)
Susie_W : Fumes can really hurt you. That was part of the driving force behind Traditions. To create a great system that was safe!
Joanie-NS : Thanks gurlie
ViaVon : susie -- please don't feel that you *have* to hang around ... I love to stay and visit and you're welcome to as well ... but don't feel like you're obligated ok? :-)
ViaVon : Susie -- I truly do love the JAT's ... can't even begin to tell you the impact that they have had on my painting
ViaVon : I'm a beginner really ... and what a world of difference for me
Joanie-NS : your Roses
