Instructional
information for video clips: I basecoat all the components of
the piece with the mid-grade value of each component and then heat-set. In
other words, for a strawberry, I would base it in the Genesis Red and then
heat-set. After that, I would take the darker red mix for my shading, dab
my brush into it, dab it onto my palette or paper towel just a bit to remove
some of the excess paint and then dab it on the berry where I want my
shading. I immediately grab a mop or drybrush or deerfoot (really any old
scruffy worn-out brush would work) and tap tap tap to blend that out. I
then heat-set that and repeat the steps using my yellow-mix to create the
lighter highlighted parts of the berry and heat-set again. I do this with
each additional shading or highlighting intensity colour-mix. It takes
longer ... yes ... but we don't get mud and that's important for a beginner
to Genesis. :-)
