- Preparing your Walls.
Fill and sand any and all imperfections. Wipe with a cloth to remove the dust. Apply a coat of Paint or primer to ensure a good Substrate. Always bear in mind that the Best Finish you are going to get is the one you’re working over. A little preparation and attention to detail will ensure a Fine end result.
Tape off the ceiling line, baseboards and door and window frames with a good quality, Painters Tape. I recommend 3M Blue Safe Release Tape. Take the Time to do this Step well, it will make a huge difference to the finished
wall.
- Applying the Frescolina:
Pick up some of the Plaster with a 4" trowel and apply in patches randomly over the entire surface, taking the time to get it as thin as Possible. (I like to cross hatch) You will note a gritty sound as you’re applying it, This is the silica grain, it should be causing some fine scratches and pitting on the surface of the plaster. Continue to apply the plaster (be sure to work up onto the tape so your finish has nicely finished edges.) until the entire surface is covered with a fairly smooth and even coat of the FRESCOLINA. Allow the plaster to dry. Over night is best.
- Colouring your wall:
Dry Pigments are wonderful for this stage, but there is no reason why you can’t use any acrylic paint to tint your Glaze.
In a .5l Bottle of FINI, mix the Following. One tablespoon of Dry Pigment or paint (more or less) depending on how intense you want the colour. Just remember less is more, you can always add MORE colour, you cannot take away!! Also, be sure to write down your measurements, so you can accurately reproduce the glaze.
Shake well. Pour or spray some of the coloured glaze into a rag and Rub it into the plaster. Work in a circular motion (as if you were washing the wall) and re soak the rag frequently. Continue to * Wash* in the colour until the whole wall is done. If the colour isn’t intense enough for you, apply another coat. If you find that some areas are too dark simply use a clean cloth soaked in FINI and gently wash the area to remove some of the colour, or to feather it out.
FINI dries to a beautiful low sheen and when fully dry is washable, no further sealing is required.
Earth Tones are especially beautiful in this Finish.
