Baby Steps

Learning anything new takes time to perfect.  Sometimes during that learning process, some things are easier while others offer invaluable lessons through the failed endeavours.  That's a good thing.  The easier things build your confidence while the failures teach you what you need to know to continue building your skill.

Oils came SO easy for me ... but then I'd been struggling with acrylics for years before I decided to experiment with the oils and found my niche.   Now, I'm forcing the niche into the water soluble mediums and, believe it or not, I am enjoying every success and failure.   Its not coming as easily as the oils, but I'm not struggling like I did with the acrylics either ... bonus! lol

Here's the last painting I did with the Caran d'Ache Neocolours II and the Derwent Inktense Pencils.  This painting is based on a photo offered through Paint My Photo ning group, linked at lower right.  While this piece was not one of my "successes", I learned so much about shading and highlighting with water solubles that I consider it a very valuable painting because of that. ;-)
